Pasa con casi todo el Software del mercado. Y es bueno para muchas cosas. Empleo, innovación, arte, etc...

Con Spectra no iba a ser menos, y el ciclo de vida de muchos productos se acaba, y el de otros empieza. Tenemos a Windows XP, que empezó allá en el año 2001, y que el soporte extendido se le acaba en el 2014, con lo que todavía le queda una parcelita en el podium de los Sistemas Operativos. Más de 13 años de soporte. Eso es tiempo para plantearse una migración!

Con Windows Vista pasa algo parecido, empezando el ciclo de vida en el año 2007, y retirando el soporte extendido en el año 2017, si la cosa no cambia.

Los Service Packs también tienen su roadmap, pero la fecha de lanzamiento puede diferir dependiendo de muchos factores, como que haya que asegurar la compatibilidad, estabilidad y seguridad, elementos que se han cuidado mucho en estos últimos años.

Todo esto es para una serie de sistemas operativos, pero, qué pasa con la nueva generación? La que se está gestando?

Pues no tengo ni puta idea, pero me figuro que empezarán lanzándose bulos, como todos los que hemos escuchado hasta ahora. Que si Windows7 esto, que si Windows7 lo otro, que si sale el año que viene, etc... Pero desde Spectra, nada de nada. Algún que otro vídeo del Surface y poco más.

Así que dos de los ingenieros de Spectra responsables de Windows7, Jon DeVaan y Steven Sinovski, han creado un blog llamado E7, abreviaturas de Engineering Windows7.

Now, they are begining to open their mouth and this time very cautious(Bad exp in the Vista days due to hype). In Vista, major focus was on security and graphics. This time focus is on touch-gesture based interfaces(reminds me of Cool Apple iPod to shuffle the songs), also MS is hoping to stich some of the gaps in depedencies and possibly replacing managed GUI provided in Vista with unmanaged counterparts to boost performance. Also emphasis will be on taking advantage of latest DirectX and may be rolling .NET FX 4.0 as part of OS.

MS will give developers more details on Windows7 in the upcoming PDC 2008 held at Los Angelos in the late October, hold your breath till then!

我可以想象得到在未来网络宽频会越来越大，速度越来越快，某种程度来说现在我用的1mbps的网速已经足够我使用了，最近下载的资源比我用的还快 也许以前读书时代还觉得不够用 不过现在上班了 时间大多数在办公司 回到家大部分时间在睡觉 所以在正常生活的规律里来说 这些网速已经足够。所以我可以想象到 5年后也许我们马来西亚普遍使用4mbps(最低)，不过外国可能就不止这些速度了，就说10mbps好了。5年后 office类软件 还是一样的在处理文件 计算机还是一样用来计算简单的算术（一般用途，别说超级电脑 拜托>"<） 也许只有游戏 绘图 制作影片 等等 需要大量的高级硬体来运算，哪么对于一般轻量级用户(不打游戏不绘图不制作影片)来说 许多当时(5年后)最低端的电脑也是绰绰有余了，那……我觉得这样也许根本就是浪费资源了。说了这么多 其实我只是想说……也许像ibm 微软 mac intel amd nvidia 等等大型电脑公司都已经预见 他们应该如何善用(或节省)这些资源了。比如说网络操作系统其实就是一种划时代产品，它善用已经足够的宽屏 节省一般用户所需要的硬体配备。我想象的midori就会是一个如此符合时代的产品吧，所以我才会如此的期待兴奋@_@！

希望届时的Midori是一个能节省一般用户电脑硬体的操作系统；同时也是一个能善用电脑游戏玩家高级硬件配备电脑的操作系统；而且还是一个能建立一个庞大稳定速度安全的伺服器群的操作系统！

还有一个让我很期待的开发重点——task concurrency，就是真正定义上的同时执行多个处理线，不过不清楚这个技术能带来多大的速度变化>"<! 还有在虚拟环境下开发的系统据说安全性质跟稳定性都是非常棒的，这个我们试目以待吧 :) 黑客是很可怕的 >"<!!

顺便说一说一些我很希望看到的功能，比如我家有个5个电脑，当我需要高运算的时候我可以通过区域网(或内网甚至互联网）来更直接的借助其他四架电脑无用的资源，（只是这样会很浪费电力= =||） 不过如果其他电脑其实也在用着 但是只是看电影听歌的话，那我才可以借助，这样的话 可行吧？:) 当然用户组可以设定指定情况下出借。如果这个在办公司也执行的话也不错吧，那必要的时候任何电脑都可以粉超级一下。但是很明显 现在的windows系统若要做到这点实在是太幸苦了……所以也许就需要更强更稳定的新系统核心了。简单地说就是 希望系统能把需要处理的任务通过任何种类的网络分解去各架电脑来分散处理再回传，当然这个需要很高网络速度需求才能达到如愿的效果。

如果Midori真的如我想象的话（微软会“想”输你吗怎么可能=3=）那可以预见微软将……不可以说是整个电脑界将踏入一个新的里程碑，给予电脑一个新的定义，硬件商将会随着这个系统的成功得到更多的开发空间，也许电脑能更简单的融入SMARTHOME吧 :) （但是我可不敢想象如果他失败了会怎么样=3=||）不会吧！！！

In case you hadn't noticed, there's been a massive shift of interest among the digerati from Microsoft Windows Vista to the largely vapourware Windows 7.

This is testament to how royally screwed-up-the Vista go-to-market plan has become. On the one hand, Microsoft insists that Vista is a huge success, with tons of solid licenses and happy customers. On the other, the company recently offered Windows XP Home as a low-cost PC operating system. Clearly, there is a disconnect. Now, even more damaging to Vista, Bill Gates and Steve Ballmer just used an important tech gathering to preview major innovations in Windows7.

If Windows Vista were a child, it would surely feel hurt neglected, and stunned by the fact that its parents are favouring its still-unborn sibling Windows7.

The level of Windows7 interest should because for significant concern in Redmond. There is the Vista group, which is gamely marching forward, trying to convince people that Vista is the operating system that they want and that they will truly love it if the only give it a chance. Then there is the Windows7 group, which is populated, naturally by some of the very same people. They are telling you how much better Windows7 will be.

Now that we know for certain that Windows7 is over two years away, will anyone want to want? Sure, Microsoft can tease us with innovations like baked-in virtualization and-bless them-gesture-based multi touch screen support - but a lot can happen in 24 months. Apple obviously won't wait to trump Microsoft.

"If Microsoft doesn't want to see something truly scary happen to its OS market share in the next two years, it needs a much more radical approach and timetable."

Microsoft dejará de distribuir a partir de hoy el sistema operativo Windows XP a los principales fabricantes de ordenadores y superficies comerciales aunque seguirá suministrando la popular aplicación a fabricantes más pequeños.

A través de la página de Internet de Windows XP, Microsoft reconoció que la decisión fue difícil, pero la empresa reiteró que su “compromiso con la innovación” lo obligó a sustituir ese sistema operativo por Vista.

El año pasado Microsoft se vio obligado a retrasar el inicio de la desaparición de Windows XP ante el rechazo de muchos consumidores, tanto individuales como corporativos, a reemplazar el sistema operativo.

De acuerdo al plan establecido por Microsoft, a partir de hoy dejará de suministrar los discos de Windows XP a tiendas para su venta a individuos. Pero estos establecimientos seguirán vendiendo copias del programa hasta que se agoten sus actuales existencias.

Microsoft también dejará de suministrar el sistema operativo para que grandes fabricantes como Dell, HP o Lenovo lo preinstalen en los sistemas que venden a empresas e individuos.

Otros fabricantes más pequeños de PC seguirán recibiendo XP para su instalación hasta enero de 2009.

Finalmente, Microsoft distribuirá Windows XP Home hasta junio de 2010 para su instalación en ordenadores de reducidas capacidades (los llamados Netbooks) y los de ultra bajo costo.

Microsoft is changing the way it’s talking about the next version of Windows, dubbed Windows 7. “What is a little different today is when and how we are talking about the next version of Windows,” explains Chris Flores of the Windows Client Communications Team. “We know that when we talk about our plans for the next release of Windows, people take action. As a result, we can significantly impact our partners and our customers if we broadly share information that later changes.

“With Windows 7, we're trying to more carefully plan how we share information.  This means sharing the right level of information at the right time depending on the needs of the audience.”

Microsoft admits it has already begun the process of sharing its “preliminary plans” for Windows 7 with hardware and software vendors. “This gave them an opportunity to give us feedback and gave us the opportunity to incorporate their input into our plans,” says Flores.

Microsoft says Windows Vista is getting better. “The ecosystem [has] delivered measurable progress in the six dimensions of quality we track -- device compatibility, application compatibility, reliability, performance, battery life and security,” added Flores. Microsoft has now sold  more than 140 million Windows Vista licenses. Flores claims that analysts are suggesting similar take-ups of Vista in businesses as XP at around the same point.

A major release

Flores also covered a question he said was often asked – is Windows 7 a major release? “’Yes” he said categorically, adding “it's hard to describe any product that is used by millions of people and worked on by thousands of engineers as anything else.”

“That said, the long-term architectural investments we introduced in Windows Vista and then refined for Windows Vista SP1 and Windows Server 2008 will carry forward in Windows 7.”

Windows 7 will use the newly-established graphics, audio, and storage foundations within Vista, says Flores, though we wonder whether Microsoft will finally unveil the new filesystem that it originally promised for Vista.

However, one thing Windows 7 won’t have is a new kernel. “Microsoft is not creating a new kernel for Windows 7. Rather, we are refining the kernel architecture and componentization model introduced in Windows Vista,” says Flores.

While Flores says Microsoft is “not yet ready to discuss timing and specific plans for any Beta releases,” he says Windows 7 is very much on target for early 2010 – three years after the release of Vista.

Bill was very candid about Vista and its problems. "We never ship a product that I am satisfied with 100 percent" he said. "There is always improvement. Vista gave us lot of opportunities for improvement." Funny... anyway

What I did find strangely amusing: the Microsoft duo has a tough time using the phrase "Google" and constantly referred to them as the other guys. I really wish I could ask the duo about why they are so obsessed with Online Advertising? Are they acknowledging that all innovation and growth opportunities in applications and operating systems are done? Why not obsess about being the world's best on-demand software company? Anyway that's for another day. I picked up some great notes for my post about Search and the competitive landscape.

Now moving on to Windows 7. The company showed off a nice demo of the multi touch features of Windows 7 and how you could paint with your fingers, or open applications and use maps in the new version of Microsoft's operating system that comes to market sometime in 2009. I think if you have used iPod Touch, iPhone and Coverflow, you are not going to be as wow-ed by multi-touch, but I have to admit, that even in its rudimentary form, it looked pretty darn good. I have a feeling Apple is going to bring this to market much before Microsoft. Stacey joked about the new features pointing out that the smudging caused by multi-touch would surely make money for companies like 3M.

I have just arrived at the D6 Conference organized by Kara Swisher & Walt Mossberg. I will have an update in an hour or so. Our good friends at D tell us that Bill Gates is going to show off an early version of Windows 7. Now that is something to look forward to and dig into. I have my trusted Sanyo Xaacti in the tow and I will be doing some video updates from here. Given the noise at the conferences, don't expect stellar quality but hey, it sure beats nothing.
