I have stumbled across a few webcomics and blogs that amuse me. Not quite enough to put on my blogroll or sites of note lists, but enough to link to, so, here they are. Enjoy.

MonkeyFluids

Wondermark

DM of the Rings which is an off-shoot from Twenty Sided. Very geeky, be warned. Hi, nice to meet you.

Not a Planet Anymore, which is a blog about speculative fiction of most/all kinds. Fairly interesting if that's your kind of thing.

L33T G33K is a blog of all things techy and generally geeky, but has some very interesting and entertaining articles in it, so check it out. Life imitates xkcd, for instance, and this one might be highly useful and functional.

I think that's all for now. I may return with more at a later date.

Vejam no trecho abaixo a resposta enfática do presidente.

É importante ver esses elementos recortados das edições principais. Os jornalistas em seus sites, em suas revistas, jornais, etc, fazem quase sempre questão de colocar os entrevistados em posição inferior, para manter a hegemonia da opinião em suas bocas.

Saturday

We were supposed to meet up for breakfast at 7 am, but when we got down there Lee was missing. We gave him about 15 minutes and then Rachel went and knocked on his door, sure enough he was still out. We managed to eat and were ready to go by 8 am. We were still trying to work out the details for our travel back to Egypt. The main guy who owned the place was working the front desk in the morning, so we asked him about the boats and the bus schedule. He first informed us that there were only boats in the morning. His friends that were reclining on couches in the lobby also chimed in. Everyone had a different story. Allison then noticed a bus had pulled up and some other foreigners were boarding it. She quickly went over to the driver and asked if there were any more buses to Aqaba. He told her there was one at 2:30 pm. Then our hotel owner walked over and said something to him, and then all the sudden the driver told Allison that there actually wasn't a bus at all later that day. Everyone literally was conspiring against us. At this point we basically had to take their taxi driver friend , who gave us a better price at least (25 dinar). After we got all that settled we headed to Petra!

The ride there took about fifteen minutes. We hopped out and quickly bought our tickets (which were about $34 seriously Jordan is expensive) and moved through the gates of the site. We decided to go without a guide, as Lee had been to Petra before and we didn't want to spend the money. The entrance to the city is down a long narrow gorge which is beautiful in and of itself. We took a long time to walk through it because we were captivated by all the rock formations.

Lee suddenly told me to come over to a certain part of the gorge so I walked over and turned to look at what he was pointing to. He was looking at something up on the ridge in the direction we had come from. He said that it was a natural phenomenon and every 30 seconds a light would appear. I kept trying to see it and he called Allison and Rachel over too. He told us to back up and then walk over more to our right. I was getting a bit frustrated because I didn't see anything and then all the sudden he told us to turn around and that's when we saw it...

I think this picture can barely do it justice, but it was a magnificent sight. All the sudden out of nowhere this amazing structure appeared. After marveling at it for about 20 minutes we explored the rooms within the facade of the Treasury. You may recognize this picture from the movie Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade. We had about six solid hours at the site before our taxi came to get us. Some of the tourist information said that it would take you at least 3 days to see everything in Petra, we didn't have that but we tried to make the most of our day!

Lee decided to hike up on top of the gorge since he had seen almost everything else at Petra. Rachel, Allison and I explored the highlights of the site including the royal tombs and amphitheater. We came to one of the temples and found that it had been excavated by a group from Brown University. It was so funny to see the difference in Middle Eastern and Western archeology. For example none of the other sites in Petra were labeled except this one temple, which was done by Americans. There were plaques on every wall explaining the layout of the temple and the purpose for each room. They even had a "Brown University" flag flying over to the side of the sight. Rachel, Allison and I ended up taking a ton of self timed pictures at the temple. It was actually kinda sad to see how some of the places at the site had been ruined. People had literally used some of the structures and carved rooms as bathrooms and trash cans. One thing about the Middle East is that no one seems to care about throwing their trash away. I never expected the Middle East to be so trashy.

We came to a path that went up one of the rocky areas that had a sign saying "Museum". Allison and I decided to hike up and see if it was worthwhile while Rachel took a break. As we hiked up we found the museum which was super tiny. We continued on the path and found a sign that informed us we were entering into one of the old Crusade forts. It really wasn't much of a fort, just a high place that could be easily defended. It was really fun to climb around up there, so I continued to explore. I kept seeing tons of Korean carvings in the rock, which I found to be very out of place. As I continued hiking around, I came across this house with a beautiful terrace that had potted flower boxes. It also had a Jordanian flag flying above it. I walked up to the terrace and poked my head in and there looking back at me were two Bedouins . I asked "yani eh" which means "what does this mean" haha I meant to say "eh da" which is "what is this". They got the idea and said it was a house. Then they invited me in for tea. I was extremely confused because last time I had checked I was climbing around an old Crusade fort in the middle of Petra. Now all the sudden there was a gorgeous house up on a rock face that seemed to have only one accessible path to it. I explored a bit more and then headed back to meet Allison and Rachel.

The rock colors and patterns were so beautiful and we all ending up taking a ton of pictures. At around 1 pm Allison and I were about to crash while Rachel still wanted to walk all the way down to the monastery. The monastery was supposed to have 800 steps leading up to it and after climbing Sinai I wasn't really keen on more steps. We decided to meet up at 2pm and then walk back to the Treasury to meet Lee. Allison and I wandered through the two restaurants in the park and decided to just get a soda since both were only serving a buffet. We sat down in the shade and slowly sipped on our colas. Then we began to get really tired. Allison put her head down on the table and my eyelids were becoming really, really heavy. We finally dragged ourselves out of our chairs and decided to do some exploring.

We walked down the path in the direction of the monastery and came to a fork in the road. We then asked a Bedouin guy which direction we should go, to which he pointed down one of the paths and told us there was a spring down there. We asked him if it was worth seeing and he assured us it was. We decided to take him at his word and we headed down to see the spring. The guy had said that it was like a 15 minute walk, and after about 10 minutes into it I was questioning if the spring was really going to be worth it. Allison and I saw a lot of scenery and also two dead animals along our journey. We rounded a bend and saw a guy walking out of what appeared to be an orchard. We asked him how much further the spring was and he said about 10 minutes. He picked up a random hookah that was sitting on the ground and then began walking in the direction of the spring. We decided to try and follow him but he was very agile and we lost him after a few minutes. After about 25 minutes of walking without any sign of a spring or even water I told Allison I was ready to turn back. As we were walking back we noticed a little black sign on our left. We walked over to it and saw that it said "the spring" and then gave a brief description about the so called spring. Let me tell you, there was nothing there. It was a dried up spring with a black sign to mark its historic spot. We laughed really hard at the fact that we had wandered all that way to see a dried up spring. We continued on back to the main path and along the way we met a couple who were also in search of the spring. I told them my opinion it wasn't worth the trouble and that they were better off skipping the trek down there.

When we got back to the restaurant it was about time to meet Rachel so we just sat down and waited for her. While we were waiting, tons of small Jordanian boys kept asking us if we wanted a donkey ride. All day long we had been asked if we wanted a donkey ride. I think it was a combination of my lack of sleep, hunger, and overall annoyance but by the afternoon my patience was running short with the donkey boys. Finally we saw Rachel and tried to get her attention. She didn't hear us so I finally stood up and yelled "I'm an American" and she was able to spot us right away.

We made our way back to the Treasury where Lee was already waiting for us. We exchanged stories and then we decided to make our way back down the gorge. We reached the gates and took a rest at the Visitor Center then walked over to find our taxi. We were a little early so we sat down and waited until it was 4 pm exactly. During that time multiple taxis came and asked us if we wanted a ride. We weren't sure at first if they were our specific taxi so we asked them if they were sent to get us. The one driver paused and then said something along the line of "yeah..." then we asked them what hostel sent them and they didn't have an answer, more people trying to make a buck off of us. Finally we just decided to get an taxi back to the hostel.

We reached the Mussa Springs hostel and grabbed our things. Rachel went next door to get a bottle of water which I thought was a good idea. She had already picked up her bottle by the time I walked into the store and she was in conversation with the store owner...she was definitely on his good side. Her Arabic is great so she was able to converse with him in Arabic, which I think really upped her in his book. He ended up only charging us half a dinar for the 2 liter bottles of water. Normally they are about one and a half. When Lee heard that the guy had given us that price he was a bit mad. It's all about charm, and I'm pretty sure if Rachel had stayed any longer in Petra that the guy would have proposed!

We hopped in the taxi and settled in for the two hour trip back to Aqaba. I had expected to sleep on the way but the three of us girls ended up talking and taking in the scenery. Our taxi was equipped with two large stuffed heart pillows. We proceeded to have a photo shoot with them while Lee slept in the front seat. Our driver didn't really talk to us much (he didn't speak much English) but I think he thought we were crazy. We got into Aqaba around 6 pm just in time to watch another sunset. We stopped for food at the same McDonald's and Quizno's we went to the day before. The same ladies were working at the Quizno's and this time Allison opted for a toasted sandwich while Lee went to the golden arches. We were the only customers in Quizno's and all the employees were women. All the sudden "Hit Me Baby One More Time" by Brittany Spears came on the radio. Allison, Rachel and I started singly and dancing to the song and all the sudden the women joined in too! We had such a great time and those women were so nice! Halfway during our dance party we looked at the window and noticed that our driver was watching us, which made us burst out laughing even more. Pretty sure he thought we were crazy.

We hopped back in the car and made our way back to the port. Our driver dropped us off and we braced ourselves for round two of the ferry travel. We walked into the terminal and asked one of the guards what we needed to do to get back to Nuweiba. He told us we needed to buy a ticket, get our passport stamped and then pay our departure taxes (seriously? they tax you for leaving??!) So we went upstairs to begin the process. To our utter dismay were hit with multiple bad pieces of news. The boat didn't leave until 9 pm and it was a slow boat, meaning it would take about 6 hours. That meant that we would get back to Dahab around 4 am at the earliest. Then we found out tickets were $75 and we had to pay in cash. We quickly looked around for an ATM because none of us had enough dinar to pay for the ticket. The men at the terminal told us there wasn't an ATM. This was a huge problem, and again who ever heard of a ferry terminal or port without an ATM??! So we began pulling out all the money we had. Dinars, dollars, pounds, coins and all. Luckily there was an exchange place in the terminal so we figured out exactly how many dinars each of us needed to have which was 60. Then we figured out how many pounds we had to change over to get 60 dinar. We literally were counting 5 cent pieces and emptying our pockets. We finally scraped enough money to buy four tickets. I felt like a little kid trying to get enough money to buy ice cream at a gas station.

We gathered up our bags and headed to the passport booth. Lee again made friends with a guy walking down the hall carrying a glass full of hot tea. Lee motioned that he wanted to take a sip, which I am not sure if the guy actually figured that out or not. But Lee grabbed the glass with his hand and then starting screaming and thrust it back at the guy. He shouted "that's HOT!" and then people in the terminal stopped to see what happened. Again us foreigners were causing a commotion. The passport window didn't have a line so we walked right up and handed them our passports. The guy behind the window informed us that we had to go downstairs to pay our departure tax first before they could stamp our passports. Really? So we went downstairs where there was a massive line of people waiting to pay their tax.

Rachel and Allison took the bags aside and waited for us out of the way. There was one male line and one female line that kinda fed into the male line. I waited with Lee in the male line and when we got up to the window it was kind of a pushing match. I shielded him on the women side so none of the ladies could cut in front of us. Lee laid down all our bills and a ton of coins. When the coins hit the counter I could feel the whole line sigh with frustration. I felt like the little old lady at the bank who insists that the teller count a thousand pennies out. The guard working the booth took one look at the coins and said "no". Lee and I were incredulous. Lee informed him that coins were legal tender and that he hand to accept it. I did my girl thing and tried to sweetly tell them that was all we had. In the end they decided to accept the pile of coins. The guy begrudgingly began counting the coins out. While we waited Lee pointed out that the guy was literally putting all the money into one huge suitcase. Lee said it looked like the guy was a drug lord with his briefcase of money and that at any minute he might just bolt with the money. I immediately shushed him as I didn't want people to hear us talking about drugs. We finally got our stamps which proved that we had paid our departure tax and we headed upstairs once again.

The line that we had just waited through downstairs was now transferred up to the passport line. We finally got through the line and got our passports in order. We took a seat at a table in the middle of a construction site which was the only place to sit. We decided to pray over our journey home and just as we were about to do so a man approached us and asked us if we were going on the 9 pm ferry. We told him we were and he said that we had better go board. It was only 8 pm so we were pretty surprised that we had to go an hour early. We were hoping that that would mean we would leave on time. We followed the man downstairs and out the door to a bus waiting to shuttle us to the ferry. When we got to the boat we walked right on and I made a bee line for the stairs. I didn't want anyone to try and stop me and take my bags away. Lee however began asking them if we needed to put our bags in a particular spot or back in luggage storage. I tried to get his attention to tell him to knock it off and just keep his bag. We made it up to the deck with our bags and then we went to the passport desk. They checked to make sure our visas were in line and then we got them back. All except Rachel's because she didn't have a multiple entry visa like the rest of us so they had to keep hers.

We talked about where we wanted to set up camp and spend the night. Lee had the bright idea of asking if we could rent a cabin on the boat. We walked over to a desk with an official looking guy behind it. Lee struck up a conversation with him. We asked him how long the trip was and then we asked him if he had ever been to the States. He told me that he used to live in Chicago so we became instant friends. Lee used this to our advantage (as did I) and we asked him if we could get a room. He said it was about $10 for the room. We asked if we could get it for free but he said that wasn't possible. I then asked if he could give us a discount and he said that he would ask for us. We walked back to tell Allison and Rachel the news and discuss our options. In the middle of our pow-wow the guy called Lee back. He told him that he could give us a room for free. We were so shocked and so thankful. He told us to go downstairs to the reception desk and ask for Sammi. We thanked him repeatedly and then made our way downstairs. We shouted Sammi's name out loud and then these guys pointed us in the direction of Sammi. We didn't quite understand them and we couldn't find Sammi so we decided to go back up to the desk. On our way up we ran into another ferry worker who asked us if he could help us. We told him we were looking for Sammi to which he replied "I'm Sammi!". We told him about our friend upstairs who said we could have a room. He said ok and then walked us back downstairs to the cabins.

At first he took us to a room where the bathroom was being worked on by a plumber. We figured that they were giving us this room because the guy could just fix the bathroom later. We sat out in the hallway waiting for the guy to finish cleaning up his things. Then Sammi came back and showed us to another room with two sets of bunk beds. We were so thankful for beds! We decided that we would just sleep the four to six hours that the trip would take. We had asked a couple people how long the ferry was and we got very mixed responses, so we decided to wake up and check our progress at the end of 4 hours. Our room had a bathroom in it which Allison used to clean her feet but I have to say that the minute we opened the door of our bathroom toxic fumes swept into the room. Something awful was in that bathroom and contaminated our air whenever we opened the door. Lee ran back upstairs on deck to try and tip our friend who gave us the hook up, but he when he came back he said that the guy had left. But what was really shocking was the fact that the guy who gave us the room was actually the captain! I hit on the captain! We finally settled in and laid down for a much needed nap. I was out really quickly. At around 1 am Rachel woke us up and told us that we were here. There had been a bunch of announcements over the loudspeaker. We picked up our things and congratulated ourselves on the amazing time that we had made. We estimated that we would be in Dahab by 2 am.

We walked out our door and down the corridor to the entrance we had come onto the ship. We ran into another crew member and we asked him where the exit was. He looked at us with a quizzical look on his face, then pointed at the stairs, then said something in Arabic. Rachel quickly translated his response for us into English. To our utter dismay and horror it turned out that we hadn't even left Aqaba yet. For the past four hours we had just sat at the port. All the announcements that we heard were because we were just pulling away from the dock. We all were in disbelief but there was nothing to be done. We walked back to our room and set our things down. I immediately crawled back up on my bed.

The others decided they couldn't go back to sleep so they went out on the deck. I fell asleep for a bit and then Lee came in to get me. He told me that I should come out on the deck. He explained that we were in the middle of the Sea of Aqaba, and so we could see Egypt, Israel, Jordan and Saudi all at once. He said it might be the only time we would see four countries at once. Looking at the Saudi side you could see the hillside light up with Quran verses formed using what looked like huge Christmas lights or neon lights.

I tried to follow their conversation but I was fading fast. I decided to head back to the room where I again was out like a light. Rachel woke me up again four hours later when we actually were in Nuweiba for real. It was around 5 in the morning. We grabbed our things and made a headed straight for the exit. As we exited the boat there were multiple tour buses waiting to pick us up and take us back to the arrival terminal. We got out of the bus and decided to split up. Lee and Allison went to try and sort our taxi out back to Dahab while I went with Rachel to a bank kiosk to pay for her re-entry visa to Egypt. We walked into the tiny office and waited for the family in front of us to complete their transaction. Rachel finally paid for her visa and then we walked outside. She still had to go and pick up her passport in yet another building. Allison and Lee returned and told us that they weren't able to work out the taxis because we still had to clear customs and then we could go outside the port to where the taxis were.

At this point I really was crashing out. I could feel my crankiness and exhaustion overwhelming me. Rachel went to find her passport in another building and I could do was just stand there waiting. Lee went with her while Allison and stood at the door to customs. It took quite awhile and I figured it was because it took them a long time to bring the passports from the ship to the actual passport building, which turned out to be the case. As we were waiting for them Allison and I watched the luggage trailer come in. It literally was like a huge hay wagon with tons of unorganized luggage piled into it. We watched in disbelief as men crawled up the sides like ants and then hopped down into the trailer and began throwing luggage out to their family. Older women were carrying huge loads on their heads while others had carts loads full of electronic boxes. We contemplated what on earth the boxes and bags contained.

Finally Rachel and Lee came back and we headed to the customs line. Somehow they had two pitas and offered us some bread. They then explained that as they were waiting in line for Rachel's passport, a guy came into the office to deliver bread to the passport officers. Lee sarcastically asked the man for some bread to which he obliged. Lee, remembering that there were four us, then proceeded to go back and ask the man for second pita. So we ended up having a small breakfast as we entered the customs line. The sun was just coming up over the Saudi mountains. We reflected on how many consecutive sunrises and sunsets we had seen that week. We were again rushed through the customs line and then we were actually free to go! We walked through the gates and praised the Lord that we had made it back in one piece.

We walked over to the gang of taxi drivers and negotiated a ride back to Dahab. We finally agreed on 40 pounds each and piled into the microbus. We had been driving for about 5 minutes when all the sudden our driver stopped the car and then turned back to speak to us. He said it would be 300 pounds altogether (which wasn't what we had just agreed on). We told him no and then he kept insistenting so then we told him to let us out. At that he consented to our original price and we continued on to Dahab.

We had an uneventful ride back to Dahab and finally arrived around 7 am. The microbus dropped us off at our new hostel called the Penguin which was right on the Red Sea. We had expected to get back into Dahab on Saturday night and so we were booked into the hostel for a room that night. Our friends Liesel and Ben had checked into the hostel so we inquired as to which rooms they were in. We decided to meet up at 8 am for our usual breakfast at the Jasmine. When we walked into our room Liesel was already awake. She told us that some of our other friends who had been staying at the Penguin had checked out yesterday due to bed bugs and rashes. As we walked over to our beds we noticed that there were dried macaroni pieces stuck to the sheets and on the floor. There were also candy bites stuck to the carpet. Needless to say we were not happy. Liesel then told us that she had seen a couple of roaches in our room as well. We decided to deal with it after we had taken showers and eaten breakfast.

We met up with Lee a little bit before 8 and walked over to the Pearl of Sinai (our first hotel) to find Nicole. On the way we told Lee about the status of our room and we asked them how theirs was. They said theirs was in pretty good condition. Rachel, Allison and I really didn't want to stay at the Penguin and we decided to go and ask Mostafa if we could stay at the Pearl of Sinai that night. When we got to the Pearl we told Tito of our situation and he said he would check and see if they had rooms. We woke up Nicole who had stayed there rather than the Penguin due to the bed bug issue. She had to leave that morning at 9 am so we just had about an hour with her. Rami, the guy who owned the Jasmine, greeted us warmly and we ordered our regulars. We began filing Nicole, Ben and Liesel in on our adventure while we devoured our breakfast. We then took a group photo and said goodbye to Nicole.

We hung out for awhile just watching the sea. I had decided that I felt well enough to dive, so I wanted to schedule a dive that afternoon. I checked out two of the dive shops near us and then I asked Lee about the place that he had been diving early that year.He ended up walking me down to the dive shop and introduced me to the owner who was a British guy name John. I talked with him about my experience and what I was looking for in a dive. We settled on a place called the Islands and decided to go at noon. I was so excited to dive in the Red Sea!!! It was the number one thing that I wanted to do while I was here ever since I found out that I won the scholarship. We then walked back to the Jasmine and turned our attention back to the hotel situation.

We found out that Mostafa had at least one room for us, so we went back to the Penguin to pick up our things. Before we had left for breakfast we had asked them to clean our room. Our room looked much nicer but I was still really leery about the bed bugs and the roaches. One of the hotel owners then showed up at our room. We told him that we were going to check out and that we wanted to cancel our reservations for that evening. He became irate and asked why to which we began telling him about all the food stuck to the sheets. He didn't want to hear us out and began saying that we should have told him last night when we first saw the room. Liesel explained her part of the story from last night. We were able to actually still point our some food residue on the sheets and the floor. The man still kept yelling at us so we just grabbed our things and headed to the front desk.

When we reached the front desk the drama continued. Lee and Liesel kept trying to explain the situation and why we were leaving. I won't go into all the details of our fight with the Penguin owners, but it was really frustrating. They had no customer service skills and continued to fight with us. They didn't offer to make it right but rather they just yelled at us. A couple that was standing nearby was waiting to speak with the owners as well. It turns out their water wasn't working properly. I told them our experience and they were ended up taken my email address in order to use me as a reference. Their hotel in Cairo had recommended the Penguin but they were not happy with their stay. They wanted to have another person's testimony in order to give credit to their own in case the hotel didn't believe them. In the middle of this whole argument, one of Lee's coworker's came over and told us that another one of his friends had fallen and might have broken her arm. So then Rachel went over (Rachel has medical experience) and began inspecting the girl's arm. Finally we worked it out that Liesel and Ben paid for their share of the room for the one night and we headed over to the Pearl. Rachel escorted Lee's friend and when we got to the Pearl Mostafa worked out a ride for her to the hospital. (I have heard since that her arm was just fractured and she is now recovering). So we had quite a crazy morning.

Sidenote: that morning I also reflected on how I called the Pearl of South Sinai the "Pearl" which made me laugh because it reminded me of the Pirates of the Caribbean and the Black Pearl. Johnny Depp was always calling it the "Pearl" anyways...

We put our bags down and got ready for our last day in Dahab. It was about time for me to meet John for my diving appointment. Rachel, Liesel, Allison and Lee came with me to the dive site but they were going to snorkel while I dove. I was nearing the point of extreme giddiness by the time we got to the site. The rest got their snorkels and headed to the water while John went over the dive plan we me. We then suited up and headed out to the reef. I was nervous that I wouldn't remember anything about diving but the minute we put our gear on it all came back. I was also nervous about my sinuses and being able to equilibrate. But as I began sinking down to the sea floor everything worked out perfectly.

We sat at the bottom and reviewed a few keys skills and then we began our exploration of the reef. I was so overwhelmed with all the different types of coral and fish. I didn't know where to look! I saw three lionfish and then as we rounded one of the reefs we headed out a bit into a more open spot. John got my attention and pointed out to the open sea. I looked and saw a beautiful eagle ray gliding past us! My first thought was "whoa, Steve Irwin totally died from one of those" but it was amazing to watch it. We kept swimming in and out of the reef. At one point John turned as signaled to me that he wanted to know how much air was still left in my tank. I had about 90 bar left which was less than half a tank. I couldn't remember the hand signal for 50 bar I could only remember the signal for half a tank (100 bar) so I kinda panicked and just held up 9 fingers. It seemed like John understood but I was nervous that he might have thought I had a lot more air than I actually did, but it turned out ok.

We began to see more and more divers around us and we made our way into shallower waters. John had told me that we were going to end the dive by going through a little reef cave and then surface in the really shallow waters closer to shore. The cave wasn't long at all, but as soon as John was about to go in, another diver was coming out, followed by another. Then he turned and looked at the other diving instructor who was with that group, who held up two hands. I took this to mean that two more divers were going to come through. We waited and about four more divers came through then finally the coast was clear. I followed him into the little cave which actually was kind of small. I made it through and then came up on the shallows of the reef. We stood up and began taking off our mask and fins. I couldn't stop smiling.

As we walked back to shore, John explained that we had seen an eagle ray (I kept calling it a sting ray) and that we had reached a maximum depth of about 18 meters. Our dive had lasted for 65 minutes and I still had 50 bar left in my tank, which apparently was good. John said he could tell that I was very comfortable in the water based on how much air I had consumed. People who are anxious usually breath irratically and consume their air very quickly. And my buoyancy control was very good he said.

We got back to the beach and began taking off our gear and properly putting it away. Then we headed back to the dive shop. I was on cloud nine and the rest of the day I could not stop smiling! I still can't believe that I got to scuba dive in the Red Sea. I'm already thinking about when I can go back. I really want to get my advance open water scuba certification. But we will see if it works out!

After the dive we went back to the Pearl and put our towels and beach bags down. It was around 4 pm at this point and we were really hungry so Rachel, Allison and I decided to go to a place called "Ali Baba" which apparently had really good milkshakes. We were so tired from the whole week and we just wanted to take it easy and relax. We ordered some salads and then just sat around talking. Our salad course was supposed to come with fresh pita, which they forgot to bring. When the waiter came to takes our plates away we asked him about the pita bread to which he told us he would have it right out. The pita turned out to be the best tasting bread I have ever had. After that we decided to have a round of milkshakes. I decided to get a plain chocolate shake, while Allison ordered a chocolate banana shake and then Rachel got a cinnamon, coffee, chocolate shake. They were huge and delicious! The sun was just beginning to set and was casting a beautiful light on the Red Sea behind us. We continued to lounge at the table reminiscing about the week and laughing about all that we had just been through. It was getting dark and we still didn't feel like leaving. People began showing up for dinner in their "dinner dress" while all three of us were still covered in salt wearing our beach clothes, but we really didn't mind. We decided to order another round of pitas for our dinner (the milkshake had filled us up a lot and none of us were able to finish it!). We finally got our check and left around 8 pm...just five hours later.

We walked back to the Pearl and just sat around talking and laughing for a really long time. Then we went outside to the courtyard area and hung out with everyone else. We finally said goodnight and headed to bed. I was so exhausted from Sinai, Jordan and now diving! But it had been an amazing trip!

Monday

We all got up at different times but we planned to meet up for one last breakfast at Jasmine's at 7am. I tried to take in my last meal in Dahab right on the Red Sea. Our microbus was scheduled to leave at 8 am so after saying goodbye to Rami and thanking him for our amazing breakfasts we headed back once more to the Pearl. We packed up all our things and said goodbye to Musa and Tito. Mostafa was still asleep and we didn't want to wake him. We climbed back into our clown car and sadly left Dahab. I immediately began going through Dahab withdraw. I really didn't want to go back to Cairo. The idea of becoming a scuba diving instructor and living in Dahab was really growing on me. The ride back was pretty uneventful, except we did stop at one of the most swanky gas stations known to mankind. It actually had grass. Ok that might not be impressive in the States, but we were on the Sinai, which is literally mountains and the sea, meaning nothing green.

We played a lot of games to pass the time and continued laughing about our entire experience. When we reached Cairo it all seemed to have gone by too fast. We said goodbye to each other as our driver dropped us off one by one. When I walked into my flat and saw Jessy I almost was overwhelmed by the question "How was it?" Where to begin! And now that I have finished typing most of what I remember from that week I still can't believe all that happened! I'm sorry that this was literally a novel, but I couldn't bear cutting anything out! I have to say that as of right now, that week has been the highlight of my time in Egypt!

Korea is about 80% mountains and hiking is really popular. It’s my job to forget Korean name

Korea is about 80% mountains and hiking is really popular. It's my job to forget Korean names, so I don't know the name of the mountain. It's fairly popular though. As far as I've experienced most of the trails are very well maintained and pretty smooth. I'm sure there are more rugged ones in other parts of the country, I just haven't gotten there yet. One of the most humorous parts of hiking in Korea is the fashion.

Notice the gloves? People here love gloves. Very often the white, doorman style. I see cab drivers, bus drivers, people walking on the street, and especially when hiking. I have yet to recieve any solid answers from the Koreans I've asked as to why...

I don't think this kid is going hiking, but the image of him sucking down a fish cake stick, rocking the "Korean squat" was priceless.

We took a cable car up to the top of the mountain and hiked along a ridge. I may be lazy, but I ain't stupid.

The big white thing is the soccer staidum, and next to it the baseball stadium. Far in the distance, in the upper left hand area you can see a small mountain. That's right where I live, on Yeong-do Island.

The trail was pretty crowded in parts, but there were nice quiet moments.

Check back soon because I've still got a bunch of stuff to put up. Soccer(football), a temple, and a trip to beaches near Pohang. And this weekend I'm going to the lantern festival in Jinju. Off to work now though.
