Não, não comprei iPhones nem falsificados (gostei mais do RIM BlackBerry Storm 9500), estou apenas parafraseando um título de post do meiobit: PWNED: "Meu pai comprou 3 iPhones na China mas não funcionam...".

Cuidado com o eBay, iPhones vindos da Rússia (principalmente Moscow) estão sendo vendidos por preços muito baixos. O problema não seria se eles fossem realmente iPhones e não só um case plastico com um pedaço de ferro dentro...

O mais engraçado é que desta vez não vi isso no PhotoshopDisasters e sim no Engadget. Maravilha, não? :)

+ Matt called me tonight to set up a play date. That was a lovely treat. I can't wait to tell him about how Chris is in one of my classes again. Having Chris as a student again gonna be great. I see so much potential in him and those 6 weeks this summer just wasn't enough to bring it all out in him. Hopefully after this school year I'll see some changes in him.

+ I have 8 classes worth of student's names to learn. That's a lot of students, a lot of names. Goooooood luck to me! The 6th graders seem really sweet. The 9th graders are great as well, just...a little more unruly. 

+ Tonight, I finished more reading for EDS than I had planned so while i was sitting on my thumbs I was thinking about why things have unraveled the way they have. It's cuz over the years I've developed the awful habit of putting all my eggs in one basket. I put too much faith and hope into people, events, and material things. I assume they'll last, but they don't. I never consider what'll happen if things don't turn out as I expect. You'd think that I would've learned by now that people fail you, events come to an end, and material things break down. It's only wise to hope for the best but plan for the worse. Silly me, I just hope for the best with no consideration that things can go wrong.

+ It's been 3 days. I feel good except that I can't sleep. I'm proud of myself for standing on my own two feet this time. I didn't need other people's strength this time. Hmmm. My head's been hurting. I wonder if that's a part of it too. Probably.

+ Nhan chatted on the phone with me for a while to entertain my insomnia. That was sweet of him.

+ I might go to beach ultimate with Andre tomorrow. If I don't sleep soon, I doubt I'll have any energy left in me by the time my day ends, but we'll see. It'd be nice to go run around on the beach at night.

+ PB on Thursday! I feel like it's been forever since I've been down there even though we only missed last week, but it's been much longer than that since I've seen TJ. Tsk to him for missing all these weeks of Heroes at my place.

+ It's 3. I've drained my red stripe. I shall try sleeping again.

I had been thinking about this type of application for a long while, but before Google Maps APIs and the technologies of Web 2.0, this was practically impossible. Even though the demonstration proves that it is possible for one developer now to accomplish this task – which was something unimaginable even 3 years ago – it is still fairly challenging. Travel information is not readily available and calculating travel time for lots of places is not a trivial task.

In addition, Chris integrated user-centred design principles and has done a very good job in creating an effective – and really useful – application. I can imagine this application continuing to develop to become, practically, a multi-criteria analysis system for people to find places to live in. Chris is going for the ‘Show Us a Better Way’ competition, and I hope that he’ll be able to continue and develop the application further.

　噛み締めがありそうなのでマウスピース作ってみますか、と言われたのだが型を取って帰ってきた数時間後に型取り失敗との電話が。さらにモチベーション低下。噛み締めないように気をつけるから行かなくてもいいか、と無茶な帰結を導いてなかったことにしようとしている。

　WriteRoomのフォントを調整したらなんか面白い気分になってきた。なってきたんだけど遊び用途のテキストエディタを自宅以外のマシンに勝手にインストールするわけにもいかないのでGoogleDocsで我慢しようとしてみる。

　なんで行頭スペースがごっそり消えてしまうのだろう……。傷つくなあ。

Dess hjältinna Violet är ett fantastiskt endimensionellt exempel på hur man INTE ska skriva ett manus. 99% av filmens budget las på Milla Jovovich garderob och på kamerorna som skulle fånga henne posera i den nämnda garderoben.

Den återstående procenten gick åt till att anställa en kille för att hålla linserna på kamerorna torra, så att de inte immade igen av kameramännens häftiga andning.
 

4. Tony Manero (Staying Alive, 1983)

Hade den här PR bilden kommit från en zombiefilm, sekunderna innan de blodtörstiga varelserna sliter Tony i bitar, hade filmen haft ett visst underhållningsvärde. Nu var det inte riktigt så... Tyckte verkligen tjejer på den här tiden att John Travolta med pannband och insmetad i olja var sexig? Jag ryyyyyyyser!
 
3. Claudio (Much ado about nothing, 1993)

Jag har aldrig gillat Robert Sean Leonard. Kanske mest känd som den känslige killen Neil i "Dead Poets Society" och den underbare Hugh Lauries bäste kompis i "House". 

Som Heros älskade Claudio i Kenneth Branaghs tolkning av "Much ado about nothing" tog han sig vatten över huvudet och besudlade filmen med sin närvaro. Mesigare hjälte som är så fullkomligt malplacerad i ett gäng med skådisar som vet vad de gör har man sällan skådat.
 

2. Seth Rogen (I allt han någonsin rört)

Seth får reprecentera en trend som inte bara finns i Hollywood utan även här i Sverige. Man tar en skådis och håsar lyfter den till skyarna. Klämmer in honom/henner i precis ALLT de kan komma på tills dess att den biogående publiken är så trött på stackarn att de spyr.
Seth är dessutom ett dubbelt irritationsmoment eftersom han även reprecenterar en gren av amerikansk humor (t.ex. i Knocked up) som jag personligen bara inte tål. Den sortens humor må gå hem hos andra... Hos mig motsvarar Seths förmåga att framkalla sympati serviceandan hos den genomsnittlige servitören på en fransk restaurang. Den är obefintlig alltså.
 

1. Jar Jar Binks (Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace, 1999)

Det finns så många saker som är fel med Star Wars prequel-filmer att det borde vara svårt att välja bara en sak som tog det hela från bara en milt obehaglig upplevelse - till att duscha när man kommer hem för att få bort stanken av popcorn och besvikelse. Tyvärr är det inte särskillt svårt, och hans namn stavas Jar Jar Binks.

today as i thump the keys and think about it, i realize i was like this once... almost a vegetable in my thoughts...my life was like a frog in the well...i used to hate/crib/weep/vent whenever my then bf's used to do things that made feel jealous...out of sheer jealousy(stupidity!) i have lost a lot of nice people...our paths crossed, i messed up and then we parted ways...i didnt learn a thing then...but Mumbai (the city of my dreams and nightmares!) made me realise that a lot of feelings are not worth it. Not worth the time you spend, not worth the money you invest...AJ was wonderful to me..one of the best i have ever lived with (btw, i have lived in with two of them!) but i screwed it up cuz i was stupid enough to be jealous of his flamboyance and the girls who were always crooning for him...i realized that he was madly in love with me...wanted to have a family with me...but i screwed it off...yeah, yeah i know i am rubing my own nasty wounds rit enow...but i cant help it... cuz i am feeling like a shit pot rite now...not that i havent pooed in the morning (i surely have, after all the wine and pizza i had last night ;) ) i feel that i truly messed up... he didnt want me to go but i left him...left the man who meant the most to me, left the city that i would love to live and die in, left the friends who are my soulmates and left the ad agency which was a dream come true for me...

what gets to us during those random moments when we want nothing but the freedom to escape...probably escape from the things we love the most as well...does the elation suffocate you so much that you want some drudgery in life...what compelled me to do so?

Last night after my excess wine sessions i called AJ in the middle of the night and he said something that pushed me to the deep dark crevices of my subconsciousness....he said, 'Arent you too young to be so old?'

imagine! the only handome/intelligent/hot/sexy/understanding man that i know tells me this...i felt like a complete loser and i felt that i shouldnt have come back to this city...ugh!! the view outside my window rite now is giving me the nasty jitters of boredom and despise...i wish i was watching the flyovers of Lower Parel or the dome of the Grand Central....i guess i would give anything right now to have that view...

oh but why do i have such a title to my post today....

bah! for the heck of it.... :D

 A sommelier (somm), as defined in the dictionary, is "A restaurant employee who orders and maintains the wines sold in the restaurant and usually has extensive knowledge about wine and food pairings."  This used to, and recently has expanded to include other beverages, including beer, sake, spirits, and non-alcoholics. 

According to my experience, this definition barely scrapes the surface of a sommelier's responsibilities!  A somm is in charge of every beverage a restaurant carries- from teas to liqueurs.  And this should be done in congruence with the chef, menu, and theme.  The somm is also in charge of everything pertaining to the beverages: storage, glassware, equipment, cleanliness, inventory, budget, sales figures and projections, promotions, and implementation of staff wine/bev education- if the staff doesn't know about the product, how can they work with it?!

There is also the issue of "floor time".  This is when the restaurant is open, and much of the somm's time is taken up attending to the guests and aiding waitstaff.  This is possibly THE most important function- the guest comes first!  There is no ego, no snobbery, and no cheap sales tactics.  Your best somm's can speak with any guest, get to what they want, and surpass satisfaction.  Some guests may be looking for the best wines, some may be looking for the best value- READ and RELATE to the guests.  If a somm can do all this, they will instill trust in themselves and the restaurant while winning over the guest.

And now, the fun part, the contents at this very moment:

Starting from the bottom left corner and up that column are the contents of my zipper inside pocket: Lactaid, Claritin D and caffiene tablets (easier on my stomach in a pinch than coffee or soda + no sugar drop), business card holder, security card for work and key to safe deposit box. Top center is my cosmetic mini purse which holds the lipstick and lip balm below it as well as a bottle of pain meds + the gum pack. Hand lotion, two pens and a paper clip (who knows?), massive check book wallet, beloved blackberry and then car/house key combo. Oh, and the bottle of nail polish next to the lip sticks. Left over from getting my nails done yesterday (I always bring in my own).

What's missing that one would normally see? Sunglasses - I keep those in my car at all times since that is the place I am most likely to need them. Larger bundle of keys which I keep off the car key on the advice of the gal who does my nails - something about being bad for the ignition? I don't know but I do know that I prefer carrying just these two and I keep the rest in the car since I mostly use it for the PO box key for the baseball club anyway.

That's actually a pretty clean purse tonight! At the end of a weekend of sports with the boy it could easily have contained a headband and or scrunchy or two, sunscreen, noise maker, napkins, camera and perhaps even a ball cap stuffed in there. Actually, I can promise you all of the above now that I have that larger bag! Perhaps even am Oprah or San Diego magazine just to pass the time at practice or warm ups :-)

He may have said it a gazillion times tonight but I am not convinced that John McCain thinks of me as his friend.

I think it was a crushing defeat for McCain, and the CNN snap poll seems to agree. Yet, I'm afraid no matter how far ahead in the polls Obama is, McCain might still win the election, and the reason is race. Someone on the CNN pundit panel brought this up, and James Carville (who believes it's game over for McCain) said something like "If that happens, it's gonna be dramatic." Indeed. I've just spent ten days traveling through the coal towns of Eastern Kentucky to the Mississippi river communities of Southern Illinois, and  people in these places will not vote for Obama, no matter which party they support.

John Fox entered the room and stepped on the stage, allowing a few autographs to start off with, and then the interview began. We sat and watched for an hour as both callers, and speakers asked John Fox, and Charles Godfrey a series of questions. It was a pretty interesting evening, as we stumbled on this event. This was a great way to start off the week, being the huge Carolina Panther fan that I am.
