Job Description for Technical Illustrator

Experience in Technical Illustrations for at least 2 years (Preferably Aerospace).

Experience on Illustration tools (Preferably ISO Draw or Auto CAD).

Awareness of ATA and ASD standards.
Awareness of Creation / Revision of CMM / other Publications and incorporation of Service Bulletins.
Experience on Authoring tools (Preferably Framemaker).
Knowledge on engineering drawing reading and 3D visualization.
Prepare Technical documentation for internal and external purpose.
Good communications skills.

I just came back from my first Graphic Design class at community college. I have to say, I'm really rather satisfied with it. I pretty much have Photoshop down pat, but I'm going to make a conscious effort to learn my way around Illustrator. The only thing thats been really bugging me is that we're going to be working on Dells. I'm so used to my MacBook Pro that I get completely lost on the PCs, and keep hitting the wrong command keys. Annoying as all hell, but something I'm going to have to learn to deal with.

I'm learning to use a tablet for the first time [YAY!!!] and have discovered the joys of pressure sensitivity. Its awesome- something that would have taken me about three hours to do by mouse or track-pad took me about fifteen minutes using the tablet. My instructor strongly recommended I purchase a tablet of my own (he shot down my idea of borrowing one from the lab... drat...). The tablet that I [and I would imagine every designer on the face of the planet] would want would be the Cintiq 21UX. Of course, said tablet runs at about $1999, so thats not happening. The Intuos3 6x8 is far more realistic in both price range and what I actually need. It's still up there on the price scale though, so I'll be scouring eBay and baby-sitting overtime for a while to come. Unless someone wants to donate me one...? *hint hint* Ah well. I'm debating whether I should consider opening up commissions to raise some moneys....

Its funny. Instead of hanging out with the four or five younger people in my class, (I'm the youngest at 17) I ended up chilling with these four old dudes (60+). It was awesome though. I find that not only are they more experienced and, duh, more mature, but they also enjoy life a lot more. One of them is a Vietnam vet, and another was a casting director for films such as E.T., Back to the Future, American Graffiti, and The Godfather. When I went by the cafeteria at lunch, they waved me over to sit with them and eat. We all sit at the same table in class, and I'm really looking forward to the rest of the semester with them.

Adobe toglie i veli il 23 settembre alla Adobe CS4

Già in questi mesi si è già sentito parlare della nuova suite cs4 da parte di Adobe sia sul sito di Adobe Labs con le versioni beta sia su alcuni blog di Adobe group però la data non era stata ancora definita dalla casa madre.

Ed ecco con tanta trepidazione che il 23 settembre Adobe toglierà i veli alla nuova suite CS4 così potremmo sapere esattamente le nuove migliorie e implementazioni su ogni applicazioni, c’è molta attesa per il rilascio della versione 4 della Creative Suite perchè hanno fatto trapelare un supporto dell’architettura a 64-bit, anche se a dire il vero non si sa poco e se verrà implementata su il Mac osx. Segnatevi sul Calendario digitale o cartaceo questa data perchè sarà da rimanere stupiti.

Sul sito adobe.istreamplanet.com verrà effettutata una web broadcast che si terrà il 23 settembre in europa sarà alle ore 11.00 per partecipare dovrete iscrivervi compilando un form con dei dati e vi arriverà una email con le istruzione per partecipare.

Igår var en stor dag för mig, då träffade
jag min mentor och förebild, det var
många år sedan sist, så det var mycket
inspirerande att återse en gammal
vän igen.

Jag har känt Torbjörn sedan tonåren,
började springa in i hans studio efter
skolan när jag var 13 år och vägrade
gå därifrån.

Vilka fantastiska Illustrationer och
målningar han gjorde. Att jag vägrade
lämna studion gjorde att jag blev hans
lärjunge och det mesta som jag lärde
mig under denna perioden sitter kvar
fortfarande idag.

Torbjörn har bla undervisat på Disney
och var huvudillustratör till Lord of
the rings filmerna, gjort omslag till
många Marvel tidningar och mycket
mer...

Att jag blev bra på att teckna, retuschering,
bildkomposition, färgpsykologi och lärde
mig Airbrush målning är jag väldigt ta-
cksam för...

En airbrush, verktyg för sprutmålning

..men det värdefulla jag har fått ta med
mig genom hela livet är ex : att inte
tumma på kvaliten, självdisciplin, tåla-
mod och så mycket mer som är principer
för mig fortfarande idag...

Rita minst 6h utan att släppa pennan
varje dag alla dagar i veckan, gör om
varje teckning 40 gånger och förbättra
något på den varje gång, efter 4 år med
denna rutinen, så började man bli bättre...

Vid 16 års ålder gick jag vidare från
Torbjörn in i reklambranchen och sedan
till , film, webb, projektledare, chef, läraryrket
osv. Vad jag vet nu är att grunderna
man får som person följer med dig hela livet
och mina grunder var Torbjörn en stor del av...

Federation X and the Legions

För 6-7 år sedan slutade Torbjörn att rita/måla
han ägnar sig helt åt att bedriva Federation X
holdings som strukturerar organisationer och
bygger virtuella nätverk över hela världen,
mellan länder, företag politiker och ledare.
dom är specialister inom digitala rättigheter
och heltäckande lösningar inom digital media.

Övrig tid lägger han på foto, där han nu också
börjar bli känd, har man öga för bild, så har man...

Den sista målningen som Torbjörn gjorde var
till Lord of the Rings , den fick jag som present
och nu hänger på min vägg här hemma, jag är
oehört tacksam för målningen, lunchen och en
bra grund i livet.

Tack Torbjörn, vi ses igen, hoppas du kommer
som föreläsare hos oss...

Age banding and some unforseen outcomes

The age banding debate has continued to circle - there was some healthy discussion over at the Society of Authors Children Writers and Illustrators Group Conference in Cambridge last week.

You can read about proceedings over at notoagebanding.org and this includes Philip Pullman's impassioned statement as well as input from Kate Wilson from Scholastic and Becky Stradwick from Borders. However it's Anne Fine's piece that really interested me. As part of the opposition process they canvassed writers and some interesting things came to light.

When we set up notoagebanding.org, it became clear very soon that we were getting a huge number of responses along the lines of, "It's all very well for the likes of Philip Pullman and Terry Pratchett and J.K. Rowling and Anthony Horowitz. But I've not got their clout."

So we invented notmuchclout@notoagebanding.org to gather information. And it became clear that authors fall into all sorts of brackets of how they are, and how they see themselves:

Been around and quite famous but know from their royalties that they're - to put it brutally - a bit of a has-been, commercially-wise.

There are the new authors with little or no experience of publishing.

There are the new authors still utterly in thrall to anything said to them by that wise editor who was foresighted enough to take them on.

There are shy authors who can't say boo to a goose, let alone stand up to some of the toughies who run publishing houses now.

There are a huge number of authors who are terrified that actually, for years now, their editors have been itching for an excuse to heave them off the list and pulp what little, if anything, is left of their lovely back lists

I think perhaps its an overly pessimistic view of a writers relationship with their publisher but I think its interesting stuff and it vocalises something that is very clearly worthy of further debate.
