The Carmichael Inn Cafe and Hunter's Bakery & Cafe are two great local cafes in Loudon and Sweetwater, respectively. My wife and have eaten at both on several occasions and love the local diner atmosphere. If you are ever in the Loudon or Monroe County area and want something other than a chain restaurant meal, I highly recommend either of these cafes.

The Carmichael Inn Cafe is located in the historic, restored Carmichael Inn. Restaurant Chef Gregory Gross has developed an amazing menu of soups, salads, sandwiches, and now offers burgers, pasta, and plenty of daily specials. The Carmichael Inn is a two-story log structure, circa 1810, that was once a stopping place for stagecoaches en route from Knoxville, Nashville, and Chattanooga. Built by John Hudson Carmichael (1780–1840) as his family residence, the home also was a welcome stop for many travelers who stayed as boarders. The Carmichaels ran a ferry and stagecoach operation, and travelers were ferried across the nearby river to spend the night at the Carmichael home and then to continue their journey by the next stagecoach.

Jack and Maria Cox opened the doors of Hunter's in October 2002 after renovating the Scruggs Building in the heart of Sweetwater's Antiques District. The building was built in 1914 and played host to many businesses over the years. After about six months of renovations, which included removing partitions and a dropped ceiling, the couple chose a classic forest green and maroon pain scheme to compliment the hunting themed decor. Hunter's Cafe offers both lunch and dinner menus consisting of steak, seafood, soup and salads, along with a delicious menu of baked goods, including cakes and pies, rolls and croissants, Danishes and breads, wedding and party cakes, pastries, cookies and more. They even have low fat and diet items.

Last night during Supernatural's "Metamorphosis," I saw a real rift developing between the Winchester brothers and it scared me, more than the rugaru.

[caption id="attachment_949" align="alignright" width="300" caption=""Metamorphosis" - LtoR: Jared Padalecki as Sam and Jensen Ackles as Dean in SUPERNATURAL on The CW. All Rights Reserved." width="300" height="199" />[/caption]

One of the great things about Supernatural is the impenetrable bond between Dean and Sam. But last night that bond broke. It was kind of like that moment when you realize your hero is only human. It was a blow to my belief in the Winchesters to conquer all.

It makes sense for the story itself, but I never thought I'd see the day when something came between the boys. Sure they've fought before and disagreed on many occasions, but this season they lost trust in each other.

And I don't know about Dean, but I didn't believe Sam when he said that he wasn't going to mess with his ESP abilities. And even if Sam was speaking the truth, I don't think Ruby is going to let her little prodigy that easy.

I think Sam wants to think he's doing good with his psychic exorcisms. And the fact that the human victims are still alive is a big plus. But I think he knows deep down that he's crossing a line or else he'd share his work with Dean.

I know that living up to big brother's expectations can be rough and that Sam has always felt like he's different, but Sam has always confided in Dean. So the fact that he didn't this time, says something.

Did Sam see a little of himself in the Rugaru who was fighting a hunger that would cause him to lose control and cross a point of no return?

I still have a lot of questions about what Sam and Ruby are doing.

Why are they still looking for Lilith? Is it for vengeance or is about the whole 66 seals until Lucifer walks the earth thing? What are they going to do when they find her? Why are they keeping the search from Dean?

I thought when Castiel showed up on the scene, Ruby split. Why did she stay around? Surely she knows that the angel is going to fill in Dean on her extracurricular activities. Or does she think her power over Sam is already strong enough to prevent losing him?

I'm assuming that Sam summoned Ruby back from Hell. But it seems a little too convenient that she's the one to tutor Sam in his powers. Is Ruby working for Lilith? Or Azazel? Or someone else entirely?

What is her (or whoever she works for) plan for Sam? And has Sam gone too far to turn back?

I can't wait to see what happens next. But at the same time I'm dreading it. The thought of Dean having to fight his own brother is going to tear me apart. Sam better get his act together, dump Ruby and get back in the game - soon.

And did I mention how much I hate Ruby right now!

It's a good thing next week looks like it'll be a little lighter. Here's a preview:

What did you think of the episode? Is there hope for Sam? Can Dean stop him or will Castiel have to intervene? And how gross was the rugaru?

As if Country music needed any more help embarrassing itself, now there’s Country singer Aaro

As if Country music needed any more help embarrassing itself, now there's Country singer Aaron Tippin's latest single, "Drill here, drill now". Yes, we can always count on Country songwriters to take serious, important national issues such as the current economic energy crisis, and turn them into trivialized, silly, low brow, radio jingles for the culturally challenged. Tippin's musical catalog is chock full of redneck neanderthalism, and Country music fans just can't get enough of his Gomer Pyle vocal stylings. Now if fellow redneck Toby Keith would just write a song about gun totin' Sarah Palin, heck, the Country charts would be bursting with social relevance! Wooooey! Break out the beer, the shotgun, and the pickup truck, and let's go lynch ourselves a liberal! Hot dog!

In this photo, we see Tippin proudly posed over the dead carcass of an Elk he hunted down and shot with a high calibre rifle. Of course, the macho and manly Tippin did not confront the animal in the open field and subdue it with the sheer force of his powerful hands, thereby proving his manliness, but rather he hid in the brush, snuck up on the unsuspecting, unknowing beast with a weapon, and then killed it from a safe distance. Tippin even wore camouflaged clothing so as not to give the Elk the unfair advantage of actually seeing him hiding. Yes, Tippin proved that the long, sharp, mighty antlers of this wild beast are no match for a hunter with a high powered weapon, hiding in thick brush, disguised in hunting gear, shooting bullets from several hundred yards away. How manly. Isn't it interesting that when a sniper shoots unsuspecting, innocent people from a hidden location he's called a psychopathic murderer, but a guy hiding in the bushes picking off unsuspecting animals is a "sportsman". Yes, the human race has a long way to go. A very long way.

In an appearance in Nevada, anti-gun presidential candidate Barack Obama told his followers:
”I need you to go out and talk to your friends and talk to your neighbors. I want you to talk to them whether they are independent or whether they are Republican. I want you to argue with them and get in their face,” he said.

“And if they tell you that, ‘Well, we’re not sure where he stands on guns.’ I want you to say, ‘He believes in the Second Amendment.’

One thing we do know: If elected, Barack Obama would be the most anti-gun president in American history. Obama says "words matter." But when it comes to your Second Amendment rights, he refuses to speak honestly about where he stands. He hides behind carefully chosen words and vague statements of support for sportsmen and gun rights to sidestep and camouflage the truth.

But his real record, based on votes taken, political associations, and long standing positions, shows that Barack Obama is a serious threat to our Second Amendment liberties. Don't listen to his campaign rhetoric! Look instead to what he has said and done during his entire political career.

"Hillary was right: You can't trust Obama with your guns," says the NRA political action committee's ad, scheduled to run in USA Today.
The NRA ad includes a reproduction of Clinton's mailing, which mentioned Obama's comment at an April fundraiser in San Francisco that some small-town voters bitter about lost jobs "cling to guns or religion or antipathy to people who aren't like them or anti-immigrant sentiment or anti-trade sentiment as a way to explain their frustrations."

"We believe that he's trying to fog the issue and confuse the voter, and he says he's for the Second Amendment while he votes to run the firearms industry and the Second Amendment out of business," Wayne LaPierre, the NRA's executive vice president, said in an interview Wednesday with The Associated Press.

[caption id="" align="aligncenter" width="368" caption="Hey, we are assassins!"][/caption]

So after digging the internet for ages for this show, I finally found it! I am very pleased to see that someone uploaded this series; as it is one of the most underrated shows. This is one of those shows people ignored while it was on the air(in Japan at least). Well it was released during the late 90's but still I didn't find a single person blogging about this. What a shame >.<! Considering it was written so well and the stories was related to current affairs. It puzzles me why this show didn't get the fanbase it truly deserve.

[caption id="" align="aligncenter" width="368" caption="Aya, the guy with the samurai sword."][/caption]

I found this show to be more interesting than the new shows that came up recently. Just because the story is very engaging and it seriously focuses on the assassins themselves. Even though the format of the show is somewhat like Combattler V or Mazinger Z (You guys know what i'm talking about, the villain of the week format). It didn't really get stale as they are after the bigger villain. Now the main villain is quite interesting as he somehow has a connection with each of the charaters. A trait that is hard to find nowadays.

[caption id="" align="aligncenter" width="368" caption="Omi, he likes buttsex."][/caption]
[caption id="" align="aligncenter" width="368" caption="Ken, the sensitive metrosexual."][/caption]

The story revolves around Aya, Oni, Yoji, and Ken. They are assassins who kill the bad people of the society. Dexter-like if you ask me. As far as the story goes, it follows the four of them as they venture into the dark, sinister Japanese underworld. Eliminating scums one by one. The thing that I really love about this; is that the characters have their own morality to tangle with. Goind through their love affairs, happiness and their reasoning behind what they do. Their motivations vary from a relative getting killed, oppression, spiraling into depression.

Now for the fun part, the animation. Its not the greatest but not the worst. But I see what the writers did there. They focused more on the story and character developement than the action scenes. Most actions scenes only take like 5 seconds and then its done. So people who are looking for a smash-a-thon, you're not getting it here. What it lacks for action makes up for its genuine story-telling and engaging characters.

[caption id="" align="aligncenter" width="368" caption="Yoji, the STD infected assasin."][/caption]

You guys should seriously take the time to watch this show. Not the over the top action style anime. But an anime Otaku would seriously find this show fun and engaging. A normal Joe on teh other hand will find this show kinda boring, but soon find themselves falling in love with the character. Now i leave you with the two OP this show used during its run.

Well we're back to Hugz and Kissesz. They are all transfered over and guilded and ready to go. They will be the next project and starting at level 41, I don't assume it will take me long. I have no idea why I am leveling all these toons so fiercely. I guess I just want to have some options so once wrath hits, I can just level away.

I'm sorry for the no post in so long, I predicted I was going to be very busy and I was. This Sunday is my 6th year wedding anniversary, but other then that, nothing going on, so hopefully future posts will be better....

Last night's episode of Supernatural blew me away. In "In The Beginning," Dean must go back in time to when he's parents were dating to "stop it" - the cryptic order from Castiel. The trip back to April 30, 1973 gave loyal fans a few answers to questions we've been asking since Season 2 and a lot more questions.

[caption id="attachment_934" align="alignright" width="300" caption="Dean helps a young John pick out the Impala."][/caption]

The big shockers:

Dean is driving a pinto this episode. I couldn't get over Dean in the pinto. Every time he drove up in it, I had to chuckle. I'd never have thought Dean would have been caught dead in a pinto. It was a nice piece of humor in an otherwise serious episode.

Dean's mom, Mary (Amy Gumenick), was a hunter. And John (Matt Cohen) didn't know. She was raised by her hunter parents and she hated the life. She wanted to leave it behind and marry John.

Dean and Sam are named after their maternal grandparents, Samuel (Mitch Pileggi) and Deanna (Allison Hossack).

Mary made a deal with the Azazel (old yellow eyes) to save John's life. This family really has a knack for dealing with the demons in order to save each other's life.

More Questions:

Did Dean really go back in time or was it some sort of dream? If he did go back, did he actually cause the events? Or do we believe Castiel that destiny cannot be changed?

Did Dean really influence John's decision to get the Impala? In the graphic novel, the acquisition of the impala is different?

What is Azazel's end game? Does Lilith know? What did the blood he dripped in the babies mouths do? How did he know that all these people he was making deals with would have kids in 1983? And isn't it a big coincidence that they did?

What did Azazel mean when he referenced the angels on Dean's shoulders? Did he know that only angel could transport Dean back in time? Or is there something different about Dean now?

What the heck is Sam doing sneaking off in the middle of the night with Ruby? What is at 425 Waterman? Doesn't he realize that he's playing with fire here?

And what does Castiel mean by "stop it or we will?" Is Sam's life in danger? How can Dean stop it if destiny can't be changed?

I'm can't wait until the next episode. This show just keeps getting better.

The World of Warcraft: Wrath of the Lich King expansion is going to add loads of new improvements and changes to all things Warcraft. Some of the biggest and most anticipated changes are the class specific changes, things like talents, spells and abilities.

The Hunter is a class that is very dependent on there pet. They're also one of the single best solo classes in the game because of this. Its basically like having two people instead of just one, or more like 1.5, anyways they are killer solo'rs.

With Wrath of the Lich King, the Hunter will see its changes, but more importantly there pets are going to be getting huge overhauls which is something that has been long desired. The pets are getting more diverse, and more importantly they get specific abilities that will make some people want some pets over another.

Bigredkitty is a huge WoW player but more importantly he puts out weekly vids of awesome new details from wrath concerning Hunters. Now to me this is pretty damn amazing, the Gorilla pet is basically becoming a AoE (Area of Effect=Damage that hits multiple targets.) tank, in a very big way.

The two videos below show off the Gorilla in action. It almost seems to good to be true, or maybe over powered? If your a WoW player this is most definitely a must see. If you used to play WoW then this is still worth taking a look at and if you have know clue about anything WoW, well then it might be worth watching. . .just watch it!

The following movie shows the Gorilladin in action:

This movie only confirms how amazing this new Gorilladin pet can be, another must watch:

By: Eric Bruce

When most people envision big-game hunting, images of distant, remote wilderness lands come to mind. But whitetail deer can be found almost anywhere.

Almost two-thirds of the United States and Mexico and Canada have healthy whitetail populations. The adaptable ruminants can live virtually anywhere, including urban areas nestled within crowded cities.

Cities and human populations are growing across the South, which translates into more woods being cleared and converted in strip malls and subdivisions. Whitetail habitat is being destroyed in the process, and that squeezes them into increasingly smaller areas.

This causes many deer to resort to raiding gardens and flowerbeds. While most folks enjoy seeing the occasional deer in suburbia, the whitetails aren't so cute when the creatures start eating shrubbery and running in front of cars.

Whitetail deer populations have exploded in many urban areas. Rare sightings have turned into a routine occurrence. While that's a problem for motorists and gardeners, it can be a fantastic opportunity for urban deer hunters.

White-tailed deer can live almost anywhere. They can adjust to life in mountain woodlands, Southern swamps, and open farmland. But the most amazing of the locales that they call home are often in...

Reading the upcomming changes, it seems all classes are getting adjusted. As you'd expect. However there is one class that seems to be getting a heck of a lot of love, and very little in the way of downward adjustment. Hunters.

Dps when solo, dps in arena, dps in raids, battlegrounds, etc. Crowd control in many ways, and one of the best aggro dumps in the game, which doubles as a free "oh shit" button when a wipe is occuring. Mana return, so minimal down time, stuns, the list goes on.

Then we see that they'll be able to Tank!

So all Hunters need is to be able to heal and their "false hybrid" role will be complete. Tank, dps, heal; c'mon you know it would be great. And think about how much less QQ'ing we hear from all the other classes, as they'll not be needed anymore.

World of HunterCraft - its the next gen mmo that blizzard are creating.

LFG: Hunter LF 3 hunters and any getto healer class

If you didn't like healing why roll anything else?

Here is a great article from Steve Sanetti, President of the National Shooting Sports Foundation, in

Here is a great article from Steve Sanetti, President of the National Shooting Sports Foundation, in which he speaks about the true conservationists in America. Hunters.

" Today's green movement uses certain buzzwords — organic, locavore, renewable — to the wry amusement of 15 million to 20 million of us who've actually lived the eco-friendly lifestyle that these words describe.

We are hunters.
As a subset of America, we're admittedly somewhat smaller than we used to be. Our numbers have been steadily pressed beneath a culture growing ever faster, more complex and distant from its rural ancestry. Now, like growing vegetables, gathering fresh eggs and raising farm animals for the table, the proclivity and skill to harvest Earth's bounty of wild game — and to pass on this tradition to those longing for simpler ways of life — reside in only a relative few of us.

The meats that hunters and their families consume are grown unfettered by hormones, processed feeds or fences. Low in fat and cholesterol, high in protein, wild game is organic defined. The American Heart Association and American Cancer Society recommend venison, rabbit, pheasant and duck over many commercially produced, packaged and distributed alternatives.

Data gathered by my organization show that 84 percent of us hunt exclusively in our home states. Only 5 percent never hunt locally. Compared with consumers of U.S. supermarket food, which routinely travels as much as 2,500 miles from source to table, we are model locavores. But "renewable" is perhaps where hunters shine greenest.

Today, every state has thriving game populations in habitats that sustain hunted as well as non-hunted species. It's a richness of life that many Americans enjoy regardless of their environmental persuasion. Yet most also take it for granted, unaware of the mechanisms that sustain this public resource. They see more wildlife every year but are oblivious to why that's so.

Begun well over a century ago, the success of modern conservation can only be fully understood against the backdrop of historical slaughter for markets that took 40 million buffalo to the brink of extinction and 5 billion passenger pigeons beyond it. It was hunters who led a revolution of new values, new science and new approaches for responsible use of these resources. Seasons, game limits and wildlife conservation funds all came from hunters, and we are immensely proud of that effort. Because of us, white-tailed deer, pronghorn antelope, elk, wild turkeys, wood ducks and hundreds of other cherished life forms transitioned from vanishing to flourishing.

Even in today's renaissance of eco-consciousness, we remain the most stalwart supporters of wild things. Hunters and sport-shooters now pay for more than 80 percent of all conservation and habitat programs in America. Through licenses, tags, permits, fees and special excise taxes on firearms, ammunition, bows and arrows, we've paid — and state fish and game agencies have successfully plied — more than $5.3 billion since 1939. And we pushed for this tax on ourselves. No conservation system has accomplished more.

As the cost of conservation rises, we're upping our outlays even as we remain a relatively small percentage of the population. In fact, our data show that the price of hunting licenses is outpacing the rate of inflation by more than 30 percent. Each year America's hunters contribute more for wildlife.

Taxing hunters to fund the health of public wildlife is a proud part of our heritage. In tomorrow's world, however, this financing may be merely the second-best byproduct of what we do. As civilization struggles to balance modern lifestyles with organic, local, renewable resources, hunters are indeed among the deepest wells of expertise on the planet.

Our very identity clings steadfastly to stewardship of land, clean water and air, intimate knowledge of natural communities, and careful interaction with the good earth — because that's how we've ensured abundant wildlife and good hunting for more than 100 years.

For us, the amusing irony is that American society, which has looked down its nose at hunters more sternly with each passing generation, is discovering that camouflage has been a primary shade of green all along. "

Why are the Belf and Space Cow starting areas so much better to level in than the “original

Why are the Belf and Space Cow starting areas so much better to level in than the "original" races?

The amount of running you do. The quest rewards. Blizzard really learned from the mistakes of making folks run soooo far back and forth in BC. I started leveling a little druid and OMG the runs from the quest hub to the "kill" areas are huge. WTB travel form. I don't want to even think about Barrens (which I probably won't do)

Fikkle (okay his hunter) and my hunter decided to take on a Fel Reaver on the PTR with our 65 level pets. Uh. Not good. Macros and cast bars not set well, he started before I got there all the way. His pet died, then my pet died. Then I died.

This caused us to come up with the ulitmate idea. The POWER TEAM. Yes, a group of five hunters, one with a tanking pet, 4 with different DPS pets. We are not yet sure who's ripping the phone book, someone claimed they were blowing up the hot water bottle, but who knows. You can never tell.

The cake vs. pie debate spilled over into pancakes vs. waffles on vent last night. Somehow I was pulled into it. This is what you get when RPers go bad.

I am writing a post about my impressions of the PTR and more information on the POWER TEAM is forthcoming as well. Well, as soon as the hunters who agree send me their info.

Apparently I'm not the only one reeling from Supernatural's revelation that Dean was pulled from Hell by Castiel, the Angel of Thursday, on orders from God. Dean himself is still grappling with the fact in "Are You There, God? It's Me . . . Dean Winchester."

[caption id="attachment_900" align="alignright" width="300" caption="Castiel"][/caption]

In fact, Dean is struggling to believe that angels exist despite the angelic handprints on his shoulders. But can you really blame the guy?

I mean think of the things this guy has seen over the years - including his own mother's fiery death. It's got to be easier to believe that there is no God then to believe that he lets these kinds of things happen.

But I think that what's even harder for Dean to handle that the existence of God and angels is that he might be an instrument in God's plan - that he's significant enough for God to not only notice him, but have him pulled from the depths of Hell. After all he thinks of himself as just a regular guy.

Dean's never done the hunting thing because it was the right thing to do or that it was his ticket to Heaven. It was just how he was raised. And he always wants to stick it to the bastards - and those like them - that hurt the ones he loved. Family is very important to Dean.

But as much as Dean's unwilling to take the leap of faith that there is a higher power, despite - as Sam puts it - actual proof, the idea that the apocalypse is on the horizon blows him away.

When ghosts of souls hunters have been unable to save start reappearing and taking vengeance on the hunters in a ritual know as the Rising of the Witness, Bobby finds information on the ritual from a book whose "widely distributed version is just for tourists" and is known as Revelations.

The boys defeat these ghosts and return their souls to rest. And then Dean gets another visit from Castiel.

We learn when Dean says that he thought angels were suppose to be like "Michael Landon, not dicks" that angels aren't guardians who perch on shoulders - they are warriors of God. And while Dean and company were battling the witnesses, these soldiers were fighting other battles.

Anyone else think this Army of God sounds like another level of hunter?

So why is God's army suddenly on Earth? Castiel and others are trying to prevent Lilith from breaking the 66 seals that would release Lucifer to walk the Earth.

This revelation blows Dean away - Lucifer is more than just "a story they told at demon Sunday school."

I can totally understand why Dean doesn't believe in God, but I was shocked to believe that he didn't believe in Lucifer after all the evil he's seen. Guess the two go hand in hand.

It's going to be interesting to see how Dean handles his mission from God. He's never been one to follow orders and I can tell he's not real thrilled with the meet and greets with Castiel.

But what exactly does Castiel want from Dean? He's not asked him for anything. He's just slowly dishing out information. Is he going to want Dean to join forces with the angels? Is Dean meant to fight battles the angels don't have the manpower for? Is Dean to become the angel's hit man, going after certain demons? And just how are Sam and the powers he's been using going to fit in this picture? Where is Ruby going to figure in?

This season has to be one of the most exciting ones yet.

Anyone else waiting for the Dean to embrace his new destiny, jump in the impala with Sam wearing sunglasses and say, "We're on a mission from God. It's 106 miles to Chicago, we got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark, and we're wearing sunglasses." And have Sam reply "Hit it."

Next week we get to learn a bit about the boys' past in "In the Beginning."

I keep waiting for the announcement that there will be an election 2008 season DVD that comes out No

I keep waiting for the announcement that there will be an election 2008 season DVD that comes out November 5th. Really, this election season is that dramatic. In all this presidential drama (and Ted Stevens, And Rangel, and DOJ) it's easy to forget that democracy is going on everywhere in America, low and high, and that sometimes those things flying lower on the radar miss their deserved piece of attention.

And boo's for douchebaggery.

Requiring a special highlight tonight is Democratic Congresswoman Alcee Hastings for her criticism of Sarah Palin. Now, we're not Palin-drones around here, but for the number of things wrong with the woman we still can't figure out why a bunch of thick-skulled democratic knobs insist on attacking her family, homestate or outdoor activites. Alcee Hastings provides our example:

"If Sarah Palin isn't enough of a reason for you to get over whatever your problem is with Barack Obama, then you damn well had better pay attention," said Hastings. "Anybody toting guns and stripping moose don't care too much about what they do with Jews and blacks. So, you just think this through."

The statement was made at a rally of Jews for Obama. When asked to explain herself she said she was trying to convey the fact that Palin is an "extremely conservative woman out of touch with mainstream America."

We realize that it may be easy for Congresswoman Hastings to lose focus of mainstream America from her culturally-walled and fortressed gated communities in South Florida, but she seems to have erred in her characterization. In America, most of it anyways, the people like both red meat and guns. Usually, in each state every fall, those two loves combine during hunting season in a joyous pandemic of totin' guns and stripping moose/deer/ducks/geese/turkeys/elk/pronghorn/bear.

Even I, an Obama lovin' liberal who hobknobs with both Jews and blacks alike enjoys the occasional autumn outing, trusty hunting dog at my side and lead slinging shotgun under my arm to shoot some game.

So is it so unbelievable for gun toting moose stripper to have some love and compassion for the Jewish and African-American communities?

No.

Who am I not likely to show any love, compassion or tolerance for? Alcee Hastings.

We wanted to say thanks to the guys and girls at www.bushcraftmagazine.co.uk for their review about

We wanted to say thanks to the guys and girls at www.bushcraftmagazine.co.uk for their review about the range of Bug Geroff products for insect and bug repellent. As we have said before, we use all of our own products ourselves and can only recommend them from true experience so it is very pleasing to hear that the people on the ground (Bush craft enthusiasts, trackers, hunters and also, more importantly the people of Africa) use Bug Geroff as a tried and tested product.

So here is the exact review, including other brands, similar to our own insect repellent:

"When testing the repellents, our team had just one criterion to measure the effectiveness – did they get bitten? All of the repellents worked to varying degrees, some wearing off more quickly than others, whilst others were not as effective against all of the biting insects encountered.
We all preferred the natural products to those with high DEET content, though it is indisputable that the high DEET products do work well and are certainly worth looking at if travelling abroad to areas where you are at risk from malaria.
Overall, we found that the pump sprays make for simple clean application. The wipes were good but if you have any stubble you run the risk of looking like Santa Claus…
Out of all of the products tried the favourites were:

Bens
The favourite from the Ben’s Products was the Natural Pump Spray.
It has a very nice sweet citrus smell, is easy to apply in pump form, dries non-greasy and works well.
Nikwax
The whole range worked well and we did like the inclusion of a sun protection factor.
Mozzy Off
Despite initially smelling terrible, Mozzy Off works fantastically well; nothing will even land on you whilst you are wearing it. Highly recommended, despite the smell.
Bug Geroff
This range worked well but we were particularly impressed with the Wrist Strap & Oil - 3 drops on the leather strap and, surprisingly, we were left alone. If wearing shorts it would be worth having one on your ankle too, for a completely effective solution!

Sarah Palin: A Heartbeat Away from Disaster for Animals?

The president of the Humane Society Legislative Fund, Michael Markarian, wrote on September 4, 2008,

The president of the Humane Society Legislative Fund, Michael Markarian, wrote on September 4, 2008, of his deep concerns for future governmental policies on wildlife protection and animals rights with the choice of Alaska Governor Sarah Palin as the GOP vice presidential candidate. Governor Sarah Palin's deplorable position on wildlife eradication within her own state should raise grave doubts on her slection as vice president if the Republicans win the 2008 Presidential Election.

[caption id="attachment_518" align="alignleft" width="160" caption="Michael Markarian is the president of the Humane Society Legislative Fund, a group which lobbies for animal welfare legislation."][/caption]

Markarian examines Gov. Palin's extreme views on the hunting and treatment of wildlife, along with her repeated attempts at framing disastrous federal policies on endangered species such as polar bears. Were Gov. Palin to become president, something which is very possible given Senator John McCain's advanced age and past medical issues, Palin would be in charge of the Department of the Interior, the Department of Agriculture, and the Department of Commerce, enabling her to broadly shape and implement negative policies effecting animals throughout all sectors of the United States.

[caption id="attachment_520" align="aligncenter" width="500" caption="Alaska Governor Sarah Palin giving an interview on a dead Grizzly Bear"][/caption]

Last night in the Twin Cities, the GOP conventioneers were officially introduced to their vice presidential candidate who is, as Fred Thompson said, "the only nominee in the history of either party who knows how to properly field dress a moose."

But it's not Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin's personal love of hunting or appetite for moose venison that should strike fear in the heart of every animal advocate in the nation-it's her retrograde policies on animal welfare and conservation that have led to an all-out war on the state's wolves and other creatures.

Her record is so extreme that she has perhaps done more harm to animals than any other current governor in the United States-and that's a difficult distinction to achieve among our 22 Republican and 28 Democratic chief executives. Voters of both political parties who care about the humane treatment of animals must unite to make sure that the nation's worst governor doesn't end up just a heartbeat away from the nation's most important job.

Palin is not only a lifetime member of the National Rifle Association, but is also a close ally of Safari Club International. These radical groups don't represent rank-and-file hunters, but instead lobby on behalf of their elitist, wealthy members to defend despicable and unsporting practices such as captive trophy hunts, bear baiting, and steel-jawed leghold traps-practices that real hunters agree are inhumane and unacceptable.

And the Palin Administration, in lock-step with these extreme anti-conservationists, has waged an all-out war on Alaska's predators to artificially boost the populations of moose and caribou for trophy hunters. Palin has tried to pass legislation making it easier for state officials to gun down wolves and bears from the sky, and even offered a $150 bounty for the left foreleg of each dead wolf as an economic incentive for pilots and aerial gunners to kill more of the animals.

Leading up to last week's statewide vote on Measure 2 to stop the aerial shooting of wolves and bears, Palin's Board of Game spent $400,000 of public money on brochures and radio ads to influence the election. She not only took an inhumane and unsporting position at odds with the principles of wildlife management and fair chase, but did it in an undemocratic and underhanded way. Palin may have criticized "the old politics as usual" and "the culture of self-dealing" in her speech last night, but that's a pretty good description of her dealings with the NRA and Safari Club.

Since Alaska is not protecting its wolves from aerial hunting, the U.S. Congress has stepped in and is now considering the Protect America's Wildlife (PAW) Act, which would close a loophole in federal law that allows the shooting of animals from airplanes and helicopters. But Gov. Palin has attacked that effort, too, and used her office to criticize the federal legislation. She wrote in a press release that the bill's author "doesn't understand rural Alaska" and "doesn't comprehend wildlife management in the North."

This new video from our friends at the Defenders of Wildlife Action Fund reveals shocking images from the brutal practice of aerial hunting, and shows the world just what Gov. Palin has championed at the state and federal levels. But that's only one part of the story. It's not just wolves, of course, who have been the targets of Palin's outdated policies, but also the Arctic region's iconic polar bears, the 21st Century's canaries in the mineshaft who are teetering on the brink of extinction.

Despite the effects of climate change on the bear's vanishing habitat and shrinking ice floes, Gov. Palin penned an op-ed in The New York Times earlier this year arguing that it was the "wrong move" to list the polar bear under the Endangered Species Act. Later, when the Bush Administration announced its listing of the polar bear as a threatened species, she filed a lawsuit seeking to reverse the decision. Environmentalists fired back over Palin's lawsuit and said "her head-in-the-sand approach to global warming only helps oil companies, certainly not Alaska or the polar bear."

For those who don't believe that the number two spot on the ticket matters much at all, consider this: fourteen vice presidents in American history eventually climbed to the top job, eight of them because their predecessors died in office. If Sarah Palin were to be propelled into the presidency and given the opportunity to run the United States like she has run Alaska-controlling the Departments of Interior, Agriculture, and Commerce, with wide-ranging authority over issues affecting pets, wildlife, farm animals, marine mammals, animals in research, and public lands-it would indeed be a terrible day for animals and for the country.

Way back in the early 1970s the Social Credit government of Alberta created three wilderness areas after convening hearings on the subject across the province. What's wrong with that? They were cynical creations designed to put conservationists (including anglers and hunters) in their place for daring to challenge the government about its environmental policies. You see, the areas were very tiny pieces of high mountain areas in the Rockies that mostly protected rocks and snow--nothing like what had been asked by the conservationists and the public at large. In my October Alberta Outdoorsmen column, I discuss how my experience in that fight started my cynicism about governments and politicians, especially in Alberta. Through its arrogance, the government of the day dealt away a grand opportunity to leave a lasting legacy for future generations, not to mention the well being of our water supply and environment in general.

So, what's wrong with that?

Even most kindergartners can get it when way too much has been said. And often the teacher's silence that follows, momentary as it may be, seals the message. But no, not with Joe Biden. Not only does he keep his mouth open, he relentlessly smashes both feet into it.

What's this we are hearing this time? Eh? Obama better not touch my guns? Oh yeah? What is Biden gonna do about it, tell on him? They both have already told everybody in National Circle Time what his plans are and none of the kids are fooled. Obama would probably say anyway, "He started it!"

Ha! When I heard this I laughed in a way not unlike how I did when my three-year-old told me: "Oh, mom, don't be so existential." Like a small child, Biden tries to copy those around him in order to seek their approval. Trouble is, even the libs often wince at his verbal dings.

Biden spoke to a few hundred friendly bodies at the United Mine Workers Fish Fry, an annual tradition that started decades ago when the union wanted to show solidarity with striking workers. Deep in coal country, Biden said he and Obama would invest money in clean coal technology, and pay for it by taking away tax breaks for oil companies.

“John McCain and Sarah Palin, I understand why they’re oil people,” he said.

And, he continued, he understands the need to drill for more oil, though he expected oil companies to use existing areas first before expanding. “Why haven’t they done that when we’re told there’s 50 billion barrels of oil out there? You think maybe they kind of like the price the way it is?”

“Imagine … what Barack and I can do, taking that four billion dollars and investing it in coal gasification,” he said. “That’s within our capacity to do it. If you give me four billion dollars, I promise you, I promise you, we will find the answer.”

The kindergartners I see all the time also make promises they never keep, but to date none of them has ever asked me for four billion dollars to do it. I mean, really, does Joe Biden have any idea how patently ridiculous he sounds? Snake oil salesman doesn't begin to cover it and a lot of kindergartners, I'm slightly embarrassed to admit, are way smoother at that game than he is.

Perhaps there is some truth to what he says. Maybe Obama isn't going to go after the guns Biden allegedly owns--only ours. Not only is it a typical example of the liberal viewpoint being touted at the expense of others' as they simultaneously pay lip service to "diversity"--oops sorry, that doesn't apply to perspectives--but they put ordinary Americans in danger while arming and strengthening criminals.

In Alaska hunting is a way of life and for some, a complete lifestyle. Guns are tools in here, not accessories, and people's livelihoods and their families' dinner tables depend upon them. It also would be another slap in the face to Native groups who practise subsistence lifestyles because they already have been effectively told, time and again, that because they hunt with guns (as opposed to what, spears?) it is less authentic, not "real" subsistence living, and they are not entitled to their tools.

In the instance of self-defense, criminals under an Obama/Biden watch will remain armed because they don't follow laws: mandates that guns be turned in will be ignored, applications for permits filled with lies and ordinary citizens will be placed at risk. So when glitches in the system happen, as documented here, or people never get a chance to make it to the phone because a gun is pointed in their face, what will they do since they no longer can defend themselves? Is Joe Biden's Secret Service detail going to moonlight as the neighborhood watch? In a nation of + 300 million people?

Read here and here for more on the people who would render Americans defenseless against enemies foreign and domestic, deny some their lifestyles and start the campaign to chip away at the constitutional rights of American citizens.

All this carrying on by Poser Joe who imitates language of the people he despises and thinks are too stupid to notice his insults and bald-faced lies; it's not endearing like it is when a child says he beat up the Green Goblin or repeats what you say in a "nah nah nah nah boo boo" tone of voice. He thinks he is ingratiating the people whose votes he wants as he simultaneously tries to talk them out of their money, not realising he is as transparent a liar as he is a gaffe machine.

Maybe we should just put up with it for another month or so. No, he won't mature at the rate of a kindergartner; he will continue to flap his jaws as the idiocy spews out of it nonstop. Maybe it will tick people off enough to put him on a permanent time out.
