(b) I lost my cell phone & gone with the wind was my valuable contact information.

(c) Remembering the bill date is not my cup of tea. I set up reminders in I-cal, on my mobile, i also have a post-it on my desktop.

So, I wanted a genie to help me organize my life. But as I am not Alladin I had to think of something else. So here it is... A widget for my desktop. I am sure all of you will realize how handy this could be.

Concept:

A desktop widget by at&t (can be developed by any network provider) that enables you to sync your cellphone account from the at&t website to this widget. This widget effortlessly keeps you updated about your minute / data usage. My widget will come equipped with "Live Chat", "Phone book" & "Payment Reminder".

(a) Live Chat: at&t make their customer service right at your desktop!

(b) Phone book: Allows you to sync your contact list directly into this widget!

(c) Payment reminder: Option to set payment reminders

I believe this widget is a novel idea & creates a win-win situation for both subscribers & the company (in this case at&t).  For people who share my problems will love this widget, people who don't will still appreciate this. There are thousands widgets developed everyday, but widgets that really adds value & help me make my life more organized stay on my desktop.

This widget can be used by any network provider & expect to gain positive reviews on their commitment towards making lives of their subscribers simple. This small widget also increase the brand exposure as the widget remains on their subscriber's desktop. To satisfy a marketer to invest in this widget, let me share that this widget can also be used as a potential platform to source out 'promotional messages' directly on the widget (but, pleaseee without intruding our privacy. Otherwise you will destroy the whole purpose of this widget).

Disclaimer: Over the years my innovative nature has come up with hundreds of ideas, but this is the first time I have actually spend some time & executed this. It would be great if you can leave your valuable comment on this post.

PolishLinux has an interview with the KPackageKit developers. PackageKit is a abstraction layer over the different Linux package management tools. It is primarily designed to unify the graphical tools and provide a consistent distribution neutral framework for application developers to install add-ons as well. This project was initiated and continues to be maintained by Red Hat developer Richard Hughes who also wrote the initial GNOME frontend to it, called gpk-application. Multiple backends currently exist and it is the default for Fedora and Foresight Linux already. Other distributions including Ubuntu, OpenSUSE, Mandriva, and Gentoo are actively participating in the development of different backends. A KDE interface has been under rapid development recently and just did a 1.0 release last week. This interview provides more details.

After the first couple of steps of the GTD process, there will still be much that will need to handled. Step three is best run parallel with step two. In so much as, that when we process we should organize the data into buckets which we will review and take action on, at a more appropriate and later time. Let's say for example you are processing your "in" basket, and there is a memo about a call you need to make on Tuesday to a client. If you label it as such, and defer it to next week, you need a system in place to remind you on Tuesday morning to make that call. Every individual's system will develop naturally, depending on the nature of their work and personality. Listed below are some key components of my organization process.

Setting up Buckets: Buckets are placeholders for any project which requires more than one action item to complete. They can also be created to manage reference material.

Projects: For example, at the moment I am working on launching a new website. I have created a bucket for this project which has a list of all action that needs to be taken before the website is actually launched. Similarly, we may have other projects such as "hire a new marketing manager", "clean work desk", "sign up for a medical insurance", "plan a party for a friend" or even "plan winter vacation". I do not make distinctions between personal and professional projects, you may want to however. What is important is that each project have a specific outcome and be reviewed on a regular basis to monitor progress.

Reference Material: The GTD system introduced me to something called a tickler file. This is quite simply a file which reminds me of tasks that need to be carried out on particular days. For instance, while processing  I find I need to make a call on Tuesday morning to a client, I place the item in the tickler folder, which I will open in the normal process of things on Tuesday morning. One can also set this up on an actual paper based system, be it a calender, a diary or a software program to manage your tickler file.

Working in Contexts: Contexts simply place all action items on your list, according to certain functions. For example, some of the contexts I use are "Phone Calls", "Emails", "Errands", "Research". Lets say I have a project which was "launch new website", the first action on the list was to call a web developer and set up a meeting. I would assign this action item with the "Phone Calls" context. This way I can batch all my phone calls together and process them quickly. I strongly recommend batching your actions using contexts to increase your overall productivity.

Checklists: When we have several things happening concurrently, our brain often goes into overdrive. To help me through busy times like this, I like to organize my thoughts in a routine processes. For example, I have a checklist for "Conference Calls", it outlines everything I need to do before, during and after the call. For the days I have to take and handle many such calls, it helps to make sure that I have not missed anything. Likewise, I have other lists for "Staff meetings", "Backing up of data", "Things to do before I travel". One can set up lists for just about anything.

The organizational step takes time to get used to and to implement completely. It is important that we use this step to put all of our open loops into writing. This gives us the ability to free ourself from stress regarding smaller things such as "buy milk", which if not processed on time and in the routine, takes up much more space than it should. Once we have processed and organized all this data, we are ready for the last and most important step of the system,  reviewing.

So.. I was trying out my Bluetooth dongle if it still works. That dongle, mind you, was split in half ages ago when I accidentally hit it with my hand. Everything was in place; the chips didn't break or anything and no small parts flew off, so as a remedy, I put the two halves together by tying a length of scotch tape around it. Amazingly, it still worked, but sometimes it doesn't, which led me to believe that somehow, it's kinda broken.

Until tonight, that is, when I tried it again. I turned Riddick's Bluetooth on, plugged the Bluetooth dongle and did a search of Bluetooth devices. Riddick showed up on the 'radar' of course, and another phone.

And then.. one thing led to another but the point is...

I was able to control the mouse pointer by pressing keys on Riddick. :D It was like I had a wireless mouse with 23 buttons.

Yes, and I'm gonna detail how that happened here, so you can try it too.. :)

You'll be needing:
---------------------------------

- your Bluetooth enabled phone; Sony Ericssons are best..

- a Bluetooth 1.2 or 2.0 dongle, with drivers installed of course

- a Bluetooth stack app, like IVT BlueSoleil or Widcomm (either of them are already included when you buy a dongle and.. they're downloadable too, somewhere)

- a laptop/desktop

What to do:
---------------------------

** install everything; the Bluetooth stack app (BlueSoleil or Widcomm) and the drivers (plug the dongle)

** Again, plug the dongle. For the purpose of this discussion, I'll be using IVT BlueSoleil. But you can use another Bluetooth stack of your choice

** turn on your phone's Bluetooth. Make sure that the visibility is not hidden.

** Run the IVT BlueSoleil app. The main screen looks like this:

** To start searching for devices within range, click on that orange ball thingy right there in the center. Wait till it says Device Search completed in the status bar. You'll then see something like this, but of course, it'll show your phone's name among the list:

** to pair your phone, right click on it's icon in there (like with Riddick), then choose Pair Device from the context menu (see pic):

You'll then be prompted for a passkey (a 4digit number sequence that serves like a unique identifier). Type a series of four numbers, can be as simple as 1234, as long as you remember it.

** Input your four digit passkey. Your phone will then prompt you if you'd like to allow the incoming request for connection. Press Allow and then enter the same four digit number so that your phone and the desktop/laptop will be paired. Once pairing is successful, you'll see a red checkmark beside your phone (see pic):

** By now, you'll see the available services supported by your phone at the top of the BlueSoleil app, below the menu bar (see pic). Those highlighted ones are available and can be used.

** Click on the icon that resembles a mouse, labeled Bluetooth Human Interface Device Service (seepic):

** the BlueSoleil app will then look like this:

That means, that there is currently an active connection between your phone and the Bluetooth service running on your laptop. You might have to allow the connection again on your phone.

** If you're using a Sony Ericsson phone, it'll then ask if you want to Start Remote Control?.. choose Yes, and then choose Desktop from the list (others include Presenter and MediaPlayer).

** tada!! :) YOu can now try to move the mouse pointer using your phone's own navigation key. Your phone screen will now display certain functions available; like the left and right softkeys corresponding for the left and right mouse button, which will then enable you to click and right click on the screen. There's also a key for the return key (Enter) and a key for accessing the Start menu (# in Sony Ericsson phones).

** if you want to stop, you can do so by either right clicking on your phone's icon on the BlueSoleil app and choosing Disconnect from the context menu (see pic):

or by pressing the End key on your phone.

NOTE:

I don't know if this'll work with other phone brands, like Nokia or Samsung coz I haven't tried it on them yet.

KDE 4, per me, è ed è tuttoria un piccolo calvario, tuttavia io credo nelle sue potenzialità, nel suo sviluppo futuro che porterà al ridicolo il softweruncolo proprietario di pochi brufolosi di Redmond (ma sempre rispettabilmente in giacca e cravatta).

Tutto nel magnifico pannello di controllo. Ammetto che un po' mi ricorda un certo sistema operativo che finiva per ..ndows, ora mi sfugge il nome. Tuttavia penso sia una bella sferzata di razionalità: tutto cio' che mi serve lo vedo ordinato e visibile. E se scappa un aggiornamento, c'è pure lo slide :)

I was inspired by this guy, although I couldn't go as far as he did. Specifically, no Yod'm 3d, Taskbar Shuffle, Start Killer or AutoHotKey. Or even the Google Desktop Sidebar thing, because I don't have enough RAM to spare to run it and Launchy concurrently. Thanks, dude!

Meanwhile, not a single major game I've installed so far(Overlord, Heroes of Might and Magic V, and Deus Ex 2: Invisible War) has worked. I'm thinking it's a systemic problem. They're not even loading, it's just returning a generic "unable to open this file" error. Any advice?

Now we're talk'n...

The Dark Knight proves one size fits all. The box office bohemoth is both a cinematic masterpiece and marketing marvel.  Yeah, I put Marvel in there on purpose.  Heh heh.  With legions of poster designs, websites, t-shirts, collectible action figures, rallies and yes, even baked goods with cellphone filled centers, The Dark Knight has managed to creep its way into every nook and cranny of the American psyche.  

 

I've seen The Dark Knight three times, have five posters from the film hanging on my walls, and the soundtrack is playing on my computer as I write this post.  I know, I've caught the TDK bug and it's not going away any time soon.

Here are the five things I find most stellar about The Dark Knight.

1.  Movie Poster Designs

As an artist, this one shouldn't come as a surprise to anyone.  ;o)  The Dark Knight movie poster designs are some of the best I have ever seen.  We can thank the following companies for some of the poster designs created for the film.

2.  Acting Performance/Script

Without a doubt Heath Ledger poured every ounce of himself into The Joker and left audience's around the world thirsting for more.  

I didn't want to blink for fear I'd miss something spectacular.  An absolutely mesmerizing performance that is most inspiring!  I loved Gary Oldman, Michael Caine and Morgan Freeman as always, but it was Heath who truly stole the show.  Mourned by millions and marveled by all, Heath Ledger was an amazing human being on and off the screen.  His performance has also inspired numerous imitations and spoofs.  Check out YouTube for this really great rendition of The Joker.

The script for The Dark Knight is a gem that is as delightful to read as it is to watch come alive on the screen.  

With a great script to begin with, Heath Ledger was able to immortalize more lines than anyone could have imagined.  Lines like, "Why so serious" and "It's all part of the plan" have already become a part of our subconscious.  Make sure to download a copy of this amazing piece of writing over at joblo.com and sit back and enjoy the read!

3.  Soundtrack

James Newton Howard and Hans Zimmer join forces again to create the score for The Dark Knight and as The Joker would say, "And you didn't disappoint."  It's a thrill ride from the get go with its pulsing synth chords and uplifting, powerful and unforgettable themes.  It gets right under your skin and doesn't let go.  I highly recommend this soundtrack.  Buyers beware, it is addictive.  ;o)

4. Collectible Action Figures

Where do I begin... these figures are simply out of this world!  Hot Toys is the maker of these incredible collectibles and one of these guys goes for about $175.00.  No wonder The Joker robbed a bank at the beginning of the movie...

Handheld gaming console
Now Apple's an established mobile phone brand, why not go the whole hog by taking the games-and-mobile functionality of the iPhone into the world of gaming proper with a dedicated Apple branded console, à la DS Lite or PSP with an N-Gage type device that people might actually buy?

While the iPhone SDK has opened up the possibility for developers to bring games to the Apple mobile, the offerings released for the iPhone to date haven't been the stuff of gamers' dreams. A dedicated device could persuade the gaming big boys to get on board and bring their users with them.

What better way to woo the big-spending gamer market than with a dedicated handheld gaming device?

Tablet
Rumors of the Apple tablet have been doing the rounds for some years, fanned by the occasional patent filing from Cupertino which seems to suggest such a device is on the way.

Surely it wouldn't be too much of a leap for Apple to consider bringing this rumor to reality. When Apple got into the touch screen game with the iPhone, it introduced a whole host of nice touch screen touches - the ability to zoom in on an image by moving your fingers to either corner of the screen, for example - making a full screen tablet is an appealing prospect for Mac users.

Apple's also proved that thin is in with the Mac Book Air - and dieting skills could rather cleverly be brought in to turn tablets into the lightweight devices users always hoped they'd be.

iPhone nano
The iPhone earned its cachet with geeks and the average Joe alike by following the Apple 'reassuringly expensive' model - it speaks volumes about the device that a developer created an application intended purely to show off the wealth of the iPhone user that downloaded it.

While the strategy has worked a treat so far - sales of the iPhone are reckoned to be in the five million ballpark - it's only a tiny fraction of the potential mobile market out there for Apple's picking.

Good sense would dictate that the iPhone's future development will follow the historical path of the iPod's. After the first geek-love inducing, big-storage packing model, Apple debuted the nano, a smaller, less flashy item for those not weighed down by a massive wallet.

An iPhone nano might even go down better as consumers trim back their electronics spending.

The device called for here is a smaller, less feature-heavy device, with less storage and a daintier screen size. Admittedly, that would almost necessitate a removal of the touchscreen element that makes the iPhone so appealing to its users, but by the time such a device would be brought to market, the iPhone brand should be strong enough to sweep up would-be buyers into the type of frenzy that could make them forget that nagging feeling of touchscreen jealousy.

Netbook
Who doesn't love a good netbook at the moment? HP, Lenovo, LG, Samsung - the list of vendors scrambling onto the bandwagon goes on.

Apple, however, has resisted so far - but for how much longer? With many of the netbooks on the market at the moment bearing a distinct resemblance to the white plastic of Apple's traditional design, it would seem an obvious step for Apple to take on its rivals at their own game.

Apple, after all, has indicated it's not scared of the portable PC - its Mac Minis have been part of its hardware line-up for years and the One Laptop Per Child project could have had its XO machines running on Mac OS X if it had opted to take the closed source route.

With the company reporting its best ever quarter for Mac sales, it's time for the company to take on the low-cost, ultra portable market or remain a hardware also-ran.

Mac OS X for any machine
The last time Apple thought about opening up its software, it came up with Boot Camp - a method of running Windows on a Mac, a move that prompted wags to praise a combination that brought together the affordability of Mac hardware with the reliability of Windows software.

Surely what Joe Public is craving is the opposite combo: Mac software without the associated ties of a Cupertino branded machine. Yet, Apple hardware and software remain as inseparable as Doctor Who and the Tardis.

A platform that's locked down is a strategy that's worked for Apple so far in brand building, but it's one that's confined the company to a niche. A fat and profitable niche but a niche nonetheless - by opening up the Mac OS X platform to other manufacturers, there's a huge growth bump to be had.

Gli oggetti posizionati all'interno del Real Desktop sono liberamente posizionabili, ruotabili e spostabili in punta di mouse. Se si sposta un’icona, selezionandola e tenendo premuti entrambi i pulsanti del mouse, questa passerà sopra le altre come nel gioco della Dama. Se invece si trascinano semplicemente gli oggetti sul desktop si attiva un sistema di collisioni con tanto di sonoro.
Naturalmente con la versione Standard (a pagamento) diventa tutto molto più reale: le tantissime personalizzazioni possibili consentono di realizzare un ambiente completo in 3D con tanto di "icone quadri" appese alle pareti, sfondi personalizzati, supporto multimonitor e così via.
La versione Light non è limitata nel tempo, quindi la potrete utilizzare quanto volete e, naturalmente, non sarete in alcun modo obbligati a passare alla versione Standard a pagamento. If you have followed step 1 outlined in my last post, chances are you have a lot of stuff to deal with. When I go off the GTD system, my desk drawers become bottomless pits where I deposit just about anything, and then completely forget about it. I am sure all of us have cleared desks and drawers this way many a time. We are suddenly faced with all this surplus information which needs to be processed. Looking at a huge pile in front of you is stressful, so take a deep breath to start with! Next, pick up one item at a time from your in-basket, and start to process. It is important to deal with each item in the tray one at a time, and not put the item back until it has been processed. Outlined below are steps I follow to process my in-tray.

Step 1: I ask myself.... "What action does this particular item require?". It could require a form of action or, none at all.

Step 2a: If the item requires action, I determine what level of action is required. There are three possible options at this point:

i) Do it: If the item can be completed in 2 minutes or less then I get to it immediately. For example, if the first item on the tray is an approval letter which requires my signature, I sign it, and have it sent to the appropriate person.This item could also be responding to an email, or confirming attendance at a party. Anything which takes a short period of time to complete.

ii) Delegate it: If the item requires another person to take action on it, I mark it, and have it sent to the concerned individual. For example, if the item is a contract my partner needs to comment on, I have it sent over to him.

iii) Defer it: If the item cannot be processed immediately but requires action in the near future, I mark it, and place it on my calender. For example, if the item is a post-it note reminding me to call a particular customer, and today being Saturday, I will put an action item on my calender to call the individual on Monday morning.

Step 2b: if the item does not require any action, there are then a couple of easy ways to deal with it.

i) Trash it: If the item in your tray is junk mail, it should go straight into the trash bin. Anything which does not have some value must be trashed.

ii) Incubate: If the item is an invitation to a wedding, which is to take place in a months time, and you are uncertain of your travel schedule, put it away in a file to review after a designated period of time. Many items will require you to think about stuff, and such a file is a great place to organize them.

iii) Reference: If the item is a competitor's brochure, I would keep it as reference material. It is important that your reference material is well marked and easily retrievable. Much of the time we archive stuff and never see it again. Mark your files carefully, and keep them within reach at all times.

POdłączyłem go, ładnie rozjaśniłem i jest ok. Dziś wgram na niego hm dwa, może już nawet 3 systemy (bo to komputer do specjalizacji). Niestety muszę wgrać na niego Windowsa, ale cóż..specjalizacje... Po za tym wgram Ubuntu, żeby móc z czegoś na codzień korzystać i dziś już chyba wgram OpenSolarisa, choć przeraża mnie ciągły widok GNOME, więc pewnie niw gram Ubuntu tylkon Kubuntu. Zastanawiam się czy jest sens wgrywania 8.10, czy lepiej pozostać przy wersji LTS 8.04. Pewnie w czasie prac coś wymyślę. Jak już desktop będę miał zrobiony, zabiorę się za serwer. Serwer, jak wcześniej pisałem będzie to: ssh,apache+php(jeśli będziecie potrzebować mysql to też, choć wydaje mi się, że lepiej łapię się w PostregSQL). Póki co nagrywam na płytki Numb3rs itp xD

Diatas, terlihat saya menggunakan google chrome (itu browser google yang terbaru setelah firefox), yang menurut saya lebih canggih dari firefox ataupun internet explorer. Yup, google lagi menggila dengan fitur-fitur barunya yang ditawarkan secara gratis. berikut ini layanan google yang saya gunakan:

• Google blogspot untuk blogging (webnya yang terlihat di capture screen diatas. Keren kan?). Blogger benar2 menggratiskan semuanya yang akhirnya menjadi cms yang menurut saya sangat baik, kalau nggak paling baik saat ini. Coba lihat hasilnya di www.astudioarchitect.com 
• Google talk untuk memberi fasilitas chatting di web saya, serta menggantikan yahoo messenger (yang makin jarang saya gunakan)
• Lihat di sebelah kiri screen capture saya: itu adalah google desktop. Disini saya bisa melihat webcam (kamera real time) dari seluruh dunia. Artinya tiap beberapa detik sekali gambar itu berganti2... ada pemandangan dari Itali, Inggris, Amerika, Jepang, Hawaii, New york, Dubai, dan sebagainya. Semua gambar itu diambil SAAT INI JUGA, yang berarti saya tahu kondisi berbagai tempat diseluruh dunia dengan melihat webcam ini
• Dibawahnya, ada daftar update terbaru dari detik.com yang direfresh tiap 10 menit sekali. Saya terhubung dengan berita terbaru paling penting di Indonesia. Saya kebetulan lagi sangat senang mengikuti perkembangan krisis moneter akibat imbas Amerika...
• Lalu di google desktop jg ada 'things to do' alias agenda yg musti saya kerjakan dan bisa saya update/hapus dan terus mengingatkan saya
• di bagian atas sendiri; ada update berita teknologi informasi yg terus menerus berganti. Ada berita tentang Google meluncurkan video game, berita tentang Apple, dsb. 

Pendeknya, saya benar2 terhubung dengan dunia melalui google sekarang... bukan lagi dengan yahoo seperti 10 tahun lalu. Ini eranya Google.

Hebatnya mbah Google ini merangsang saya untuk tidak menyia2kan kesempatan ini untuk terus berkarya. Makasih ya mbah...

We need an innovative leader to hand the torch over to.  This economy requires the swiftness of learning, dexterity, the constitution of a leader that can flex the courage of conviction, and empathically listen to the expertise within the organization. Balance that with respect for the founder's principals and their developed culture and listen to the wisdom of one of the best boards on the planet.

We need to listen to our employees. They are the human assets of this organization.  They construct the value underlying the Brand Equity. Do not underestimate their value.

We need a Leader, out of the mainstream.  Innovative, to lead this company to the top of the new economy.  To ride the wave of prosperity that will surf the detritus of poor decisions in the financial markets. Apple can do it. There is no need to be be satisfied with low market share. These are the times that companies can surge. It cannot be missed.

Apple has the best products on earth.  Nothing comes close. Lets leverage a CEO with youthful attachment to the new culture, Social Web 2.0 experience from technology to culture and experienced to have the wisdom of the garage startup, the grey hair of the flexability of selforganizational knowledge, and the attributes of Attunement and Empathy. Awareness of the organization. We need to develop the resources of the organization and exploit (good connotation, and leverage them), to boundless regions that have never been reached for.

The emergence of selforganization, and it's basis in social structure as I opine on it can be found in vestigial boolean form, in Stuart Kaufman's The Origins of Order.  I have just applied that logic to the business cycle.

So much opportunity, so much Brand equity, the growth is there for the taking, however, a leader must lead the charge!!!

It is so obvious. The apps are emerging at light speed, as the world is figuring out that the convergence of locality technology with mobility computing has facilitated the next revolution in application development and efficiency from IT, to supply chain, to most vertical apps.  Simple incentivization programs, every last one would benefit from a custom built mobile app.

Local intelligence, combined with any other parameter, accelerometer, OCR from pictures, temperature sensing, facilitates a massive flux of creativity.

Apple can do it. Why make us wait? Where is 3G in the overpriced AirBook? That would make it worthwhile, than one feature. It just has to be priced right. Lets get on board!

The opportunities being missed are excruciating.

Get on board now, or miss the future.  

building these unique apps is extraordinary.  We have built short code and mobile apps now that have changed the lives of the consumer to the sales force.

OEMS, and VARs need to bring up the calvary.  Where are our thin clients? Our switches, our enhancement in hardware?

Is 45 nm too small? Have we reached the limits? Do we need the hyper jump to quantum computing?

The road to revenue is clear as day. You just have to get on it, and don't miss a turn.
