This post is meant to serve as warning to all rapists and sharks out there. Actually, more like a repellent to said creatures. Is someone trying enter one of your orifices that shouldn't be? Don't do what everyone else thinks you should do... do not go for the balls. Do not punch a rapist or a shark in the balls. That would just piss them off. You're liable to get punched so hard, you'll get knocked out. Next thing you know, you woke with someone's boys and girls oozing out of you, or with one of your legs missing.

So I propose a new strategy. Go for the fucking eyes. Let them get close to you - real close. Then, take a good hold of their head with your fingers, and JAM your fucking thumb so hard into their eye sockets, their poor little balls of optic delight ooze out of the socket.

"But why would I do that? That's so disgusting."

Because if you blind them, they won't be able to see you. They will flail their arms in crazy directions but you can just get up and run/swim away. Turning them into Ray Charles is much better than the alternatives. Plus, think about how badass you' d be to your friends and neighbors. Use your thumbs.

Siren: Blood Curse is coming to PlayStation Network in twelve "TV-style, suspense-packed downloadable episodes this summer," Sony has confirmed. Pricing, or a specific start date, has yet to be made available.

The official line on the story is: "The horror-survival title is set in the Japanese village of Hanuda, where a TV crew from America arrive to research the legend of the Vanished Village where human sacrifice is said to have taken place thirty years ago.

"Players discover the horrific curse that haunts Hanuda and battle to save the village's survivors from the living dead - a spine-tingling struggle that involves using the unique Sight-Jack system to view events from the angle of your undead pursuers. In a gaming first, Siren Blood Curse will be released episodically, keeping gamers on the edge of their seats until the next download arrives in PSN."

We've seen blood-curdling nurses and spook-tastic housewives. Hopefully we'll be seeing much more in the months to come.

Saya è una tranquilla liceale in quel di Okinawa. Suo padre George conduce una piccola trattoria a gestione famigliare, il suo fratello maggiore Kay è un comune teppistello liceale ed il suo fratellino minore Riku è un bravo ometto di casa.
Affetta da amnesia, Saya non sa nulla della sua vita a partire da circa un anno prima, l'unica cosa che sa è che la sua famiglia non è veramente sua e che è stata adottata dopo un incidente di cui non ricorda nulla. A parte questo, la vita di Saya sembra trascorrere abbastanza normalmente, se si eccettua il suo straordinario appetito e le trasfusioni per anemia a cui si deve periodicamente sottoporre. Questo però è un manga d'azione horror e il lettore si attende che qualcosa stracci questo velo di "normalità".Il qualcosa è, inizialmente, un violinista itinerante che riconosce Saya e, a seguire, mostruosità succhiasangue, una organizzazione segreta chiamata "Red Shield" che sorveglia Saya da tempo ed un inquietante ragazzino che ha sotto il suo controllo una intera base dell'esercito USA in Giappone. Tutti si muovono verso Saya assetati di qualcosa, mentre lei vorrebbe solo poter rimanere con la sua famiglia ed il suo fratellone Kay.

La rinascita dei vampiri

Disegnato da Asuka Katsura sulla base di personaggi e situazioni creati da Production I.G. - Aniplex per l'Anime Blood - The Last Vampire, Blood + riprende gli eventi narrati nell'anime e nell'omonimo fumetto anni dopo.
Facendo subito un confronto con il predecessore cartaceo, bisogna dire che gli inizi sono decisamente più incoraggianti. Certo, rispetto alla violenza e alla spregiudicatezza del precedente Blood, la narrazione qui si incanala su binari più tradizionali, ma se torniamo con la mente alla confusa narrazione ad effetto che caratterizzava il predecessore, questo non è necessariamente un male.
Blood+ infatti appoggia su di un soggetto non originalissimo (il mostro cacciatore di mostri) una robusta sceneggiatura fin dal primo numero. Le situazioni ed i dialoghi procedono con scioltezza verso il finale del numero. I personaggi entrano in scena con una presentazione adeguata e poi cominciano a dirci di loro con le loro azioni. Al limite potrebbero apparire un po' stereotipati, ma non danno particolari motivi di disaffezione al lettore.
Si ha però l'impressione che, infine, eccettuato il recupero del personaggio principale e di pochi "leit-motiv", di Blood - The Last Vampire in questo manga resti proprio solo il titolo.

Quadretto famigliare con vampiro

Il disegno di Katsura, nonostante il tratto solare con una certa commistione di stilemi Shojo e Shonen, si adatta bene anche ai momenti di angoscia e si districa bene tanto nella pulizia dei personaggi e nella coerenza delle anatomie, quanto nella costruzione delle tavole.

Il lettore è al sicuro

In breve possiamo dire che Blood+ si propone per lo meno di riscattare la prova non brillante del manga Blood-The Last Vampire, con una sceneggiatura valida e un disegno che per lo meno non fa rimpiangere al lettore la spesa.
In un mercato inflazionato non è detto che questo sia sufficiente a ritagliarsi il proprio spazio, ma la programmazione su soli 5 volumi (più un volume di spin-off) potrebbe essere un buon argomento per il lettore incerto se impegnarsi o meno su di una nuova lettura.

The idea, it seemed to him, was quite natural; to build a shack for the summer. Find solitude from the house even if by only 100 paces. The house that he came back to again and again, where he had been born, and where the life of before him still went on after him with the same silent mystery. It was his idea not do much of anything for Reason or Rhyme. These two women had led him astray, he thought. This Rhyme and this Reason, like sirens calling to him. He had listened, fell into their gaze and forgot the chaos. It was through the path of these two that he had be brought back chaos without forewarning. This is what he needed to parse out. So he thought to build the shack and build the shack he did.

The grass, at their highest parts, tickled his knees. His black work boots soaked up sun in competition with his shoulders, who were losing that battle. Had it been a week since he'd washed his hair, or even referenced a shiny surface? The mid-day sun produced salted water that he drew from his forehead with his forearm. He had forgotten the heat and the sun and it seemed he would forget them if they did not insist on making themselves known. With a hammer jumping in his right hand the bundle of corrugated sheet metal occupied the left as he walked out to the field.

Arriving in the middle of the field he found the house behind, the crops beyond, woods to the right and to the left the interstate far enough away to make cars look like beads being passed through an invisible thread.

The structure was simple yet contrived. He couldn't think of symmetry, couldn't see the object so much as a whole but more as a collection of beauty and function. He chose pieces for their rusted edges and watermarked etchings. Some had been twisted beneath the wheels of a tractor - those he pierced into the surrounding earth, their only purpose to serve as focal points for the coming weeks. Still, he wasn't finished. The room without a roof remained an enigma, and so he threw down the pieces to sift through and divide and began his task to enclose his edifice.

He needed to bring that hammer down again and again, to nail metal to wood. It was an action with purpose that allowed his body to articulate the fire inside his brain. Creating sound that did not come from his body but bellowed out of his grief and frustration and like a boomerang came back around again to him. These sharp bursts numbed his ears providing the validating pain that it had not been his hearing that had been a problem but that there had been less and less words that entered them. Her words had become fewer and fewer until there was no way for her to say what she did, and instead she had walked out. There were also no words to request of her, he knew, because her language had become garbled and disconnected. No longer could he hold the rhythm of her gestures in his sight and translate their meanings. She had become an stranger again, which is what bothered him the most. To recall her was almost to have deja vous, feeling he had been there before but this was actually the first time. His anger flared up and he struck the tin roof again with the hammer.

At first it didn't look real. It was when he blinked that he felt the reassurance of pain. His lack of reaction surprised him, so he searched for the next thing he ought to do. It made sense, then, for his next move to be to step down from the ladder and walk back to the house. The sky was clear and there was a tender wind that encircled him. The silence was as intense as the heat which made his breathing annoying. Because there was nothing to hear, he could now hear it all. the grass crunching, the rubbing of his jeans, and his heart.

Some three hours later another sharp tone numbed his ears. At first he grabbed through his sound index in hurried frustration to place it. As he opened his eyes he was able to make the connection. He could see it was her mouth that was producing the sound, but it was her eyes that expressed the horror. He expressed question in his brow. Then that tickle on his chest, and it was as if his mother had screamed pain back into his body. He dared not move his hand but he made noises - guttural claps and barks mixed with long moans and breathy gasps to retain some sort of strength by exercising the pain.

The first words of the day came then from his father, "you're gonna lose that finger, son."

Tears cleared paths in the dirt on his face. Swan's face passed before him, but it was someone else's wisdom that he heard. The loss of the finger was not a loss, but an awakening. It was a sacrifice by blood, one which he could not make by heart or head alone. It was an end and as endings go, also a beginning.

His father was right. They amputated the left index finger two hours after arriving at the hospital. It was the three hours that damaged the nerves and gave time for the sun to boil the sausage that remained of his finger. Even then the bone had been crushed. Irreparable.

Gospel didn't mind the loss, in fact he was relieved to not have been given the choice or the following obligation lie for the rest of his life. He knew he couldn't tell people that he'd take the loss as a tangible to the intangible loss that had occurred months earlier. He was content to have proof; evidence.

It was three weeks before he returned to finish the shack, even against his mother's plea. She knew just as well as he did that he didn't have a choice. He needed to finish it and sit in it. And so that it what he did.

Blood clot cause of death

A short-lived pandemic scare, one that caused a train to be quarantined last Friday, actually resulted from a sedentary passenger's fatal blood clot, police have told The Globe and Mail.

Brenda Buckley, a 43-year-old South African tourist travelling alone on a cross-Canada rail journey, died from a pulmonary embolism, authorities say. The condition, the worst-case outcome of a lesser malady known to travellers as deep-vein thrombosis, can result from protracted periods of sitting.

The condition has been known to arise on long-haul flights, but many observers are surprised it is being linked to rail travel. "This is not a condition Via [Rail] has ever encountered on any of its trains," Catherine Kaloutsky, a spokeswoman for the company, said last night. She said Via Rail doesn't warn passengers about the risk of thrombosis, but will review practices. (news)

Suge Knight Knocked Out in Bloody Fistfight

Not that we're war mongers, but we felt it was right to report that Hip-Hop's big bad wolf, Suge Knight, was knocked to the ground this past Saturday at Shag Nightclub, according to TMZ.com [full story].

Right on the pulse, TMZ.com reported:

"As we first reported, Suge was at Shag nightclub when he began arguing with a man he had been talking with. Our spy overheard Suge say, "I want my money!" Suge and his peeps beat the guy to the ground, but the man landed a right hook on Suge's face, knocking him out for around three minutes."

True to his persona, Suge Knight, former Death Row Records CEO, home to Tupac, Snoop and Dre, did not press charges. I've not known of a well publicised beating for Suge so we hope the repercussions aren't too extreme.

Three Days Later...

Here's my arm, three days later (gave blood Thursday morning and here's how I look/ed Sunday Afternoon)

I FINALLY feel like I'm back to (mostly) normal. I'm not so tired, my appetite is pretty much back to "constant graze" and the only odd thing is that my tolerance for alcohol is way diminished. I guess it could be worse, beer goes straight to my tummy anyway.
Funny thing is, it all seems so surreal now. Almost like it didn't happen or I didn't do it. But i did do it. And it did happen. And it will happen again. And I hurt much less then when I have to have a blood draw... so it must be physiological.
Haven't had the guts to go back the gym yet (the pamphlet advised to avoid strenuous activity if bruising occurs), seems like slight physical activity makes me more aware of the bruised area, so I think I'll try the gym tomorrow and stop if I start to hurt. No harm, no foul right?

That being said, perhaps I'll try tackling another sewing project, though my bathroom is asking me to paint it... I mean, it's raining and Steve's doing homework... guess I'll stare at my toes :)

Oh, and Happy Mother's Day to all!

Sis and I hardly ever hang out since I've been working so today was a nice day where she made me some eggs and we sat together and ate it. We were talking about a bunch of random things till I suddenly just asked her:

"Okay, so you know like, women..."

"..Mmm yes."

"...who are like on the streets and are homeless?"

"Yeah?"

".....What happens when they have their period?"

"*Her left eye squints a bit* I'm so glad I'm not eating."

"Because like, it's not like they could afford pads or...tampons.."

Episode 2 takes place a year after the events in episode 1, also a year after Maeno joined Rin and Mimi. There's a lot of detailed explanation in this episode, mostly about the immortals and its origins.

The little bubble above is called the Fruit of Immortality that is released by the volcanic cloud (still no explanation about it) where if it is taken by a female, then she will turn into an Immortal but it will change a male person to an Angel if he chooses to consume it. Angels are the natural enemies for the Immortals, in other words, angels are the only ones that could end the Immortals' life. In the other way round, the Immortals are physically or sexually attracted to the Angels where they are supposed to avoid them. Lifespan for the Angels are very short that is around 2-3 weeks only. I forgot to introduce the remaining two characters from episode 1 that I thought didnt carry any major roles in the coming episodes - they are Eipos and Laura. There is not much info for Eipos until now, but from what I've already seen till episode 3, Eipos has control over the Immortals and the Angels as well. Laura is an assasin hired by some unknown individual or corporation to terminate Rin. Laura was badly hurt in a fight with Rin (I assume she almost died form her condition) in episode 1 but she was revived back by Eipos turning her into another Immortal.

Episode 2 - Angels Don't Cry

This episode starts with a warm-up kissing scene between Rin and Mimi. There is two major cases in this episode, one is the Sutherland Stamp killer and the second one is about a young girl, Yuki that has an Angel as her brother. The Sutherland Stamp killer is an assasin that only accepts rare stamps like the Sutherland Stamp as his payment. He was killed by Shogo (Yuki's brother), the Angel at the ending. Meanwhile Shogo became an Angel after consuming the Fruit of Immortality that he obtained from Eipos (no scenes showing Shogo and Eipos together though), so that he can terminate all the individuals that are going against him. At the end, Shogo was killed by RIn after some hot body contact with her.

Earlier in this show, there's a fight between Rin and Laura, where Laura blew herself up together with Rin. Rin's mutilated body regeneration was witnessed by Maeno where he was briefed by Mimi after that. And finally, the best part of this OVA, the ecchi scenes. As I have mentioned in the first episode review, there are some yuri or lesbian scenes (you can see what Mimi and Rin does) later in the show. Scenes below is between Rin and one of her informer.

We sit here watching our lives pass us by not even realizing the ones we love are hurting so much to the point they die. Do we mean everything to happen that way . do we even want them to hurt.

We go on just being ourselves even though were hated for it. We go on being hated by our parents and they never realize that we hurt so much inside till its too late.

Do they think they can help. They only make it worse. You try and help. You need a friend .. but you have none. So what do you do. You turn to a razor and cut but y can’t you just talk to someone

Beuz it so fucking hard for ppl who aren’t cutters to understand how we think to understand how we feel inside. To know what we are going through. But who cares. Were just looked down upon by everyone. And we hide ourselves being someone else someone were not. No one cares do they that’s what we keep thinking to ourselves. But why can’t we just see the world around us. Why can’t we just ask for. Help becuz we wan tot prove that were better then ourselves that we can feel better this way that we can help ourselves when alls we do is hurt ourselves. I mean it hurts. it gives us happiness for only a moment then its gone and were still left depressed. Do we even care that we stayed depressed all the time pissed off at everyone. Sad cuz everything around us is fading in to a depressing memory of something we hate. Who cares!!!!!!!

Proceeding the story. I was in Malaysia and I still got blood in my stool. I hate it. I always need to find a toilet after eating, it was excruciating. Sometimes during the process of eating, I need to go to the toilet. So I went to see a doctor at a clinic. It was first diagnosed as somewhat they called Traveler's diarrhea but they pills they gave didn't do anything at all. They suspected the worst , colon cancer, and they asked me to go to the hospital as fast as I can. So I went to a private hospital and they said they need some blood and stool sample, but they couldn't process the sample as fast as some top hospital so they forwarded me to PUSRAWI. It was fast and easy. The first time experience preparing for colonoscopy was surprisingly painful and very tiring. Really it is, it's like fasting(puasa) but for 3-4 days without breaking(bukak puasa) it. Then after the procedure and all. I went to the hospital a week after that for the explanation, I didn't really understand the degree of my illness. Seriously I thought I just need to go to the toilet more and no more problems and there's like some medicine to control the bowel movement. And I thought, OK that is all. I went back home even smiling. I really don't know. The doctor said it is an autoimmune disease and the cause is unknown. The thing that changed your life and there is no hint on what is the cause. I was not satisfied actually and the best answer the doctor said "Your just unlucky". I don't blame the doctor after I joined some forums that I'll update it later. I forgot to update that the medicine that I took costs a lot of money. It is expensive. It was shocking and I think it was around 600MYR and another 2000MYR for the colonoscopy. What conditions disqualify you from donating blood?

Some people are disqualified from donating blood because they have diseases that are transmissible via blood. Other potential donors are disqualified because their conditions could endanger themselves.

According to the American Red Cross:

* Being positive for the AIDS or hepatitis viruses rules one out as a blood donor.
* Individuals who have had ear, tongue, or other body part piercing are allowed to donate blood as long as the needle used in the piercing was sterile. If it was not or if this is unknown, the potential donor must wait 12 months from the time of the piercing.
* Being imprisoned rules one out as a blood donor.
* Being in the US military and serving in Iraq or Afghanistan rules one out as a blood donor for one year.
* A person with diabetes is allowed to donate blood. Insulin dependent diabetics are allowed to donate blood as long as their insulin syringe, if reused, is used only by them.
* Being deferred from travel to the UK and Western Europe due to concerns about Mad Cow Disease rules one out as a blood donor.
* Physically small people are not acceptable as blood donors as they have lower blood volumes and may not be able to safely lose a full pint of blood.
* One may not donate blood while one has the flu. But one can donate blood after exposure to someone with the flu provided the potential donor feels and has no symptoms.
* A minimum age limit exists as to how old a person must be in order to donate blood (usually age 17). There is no maximum age limit.
* Pregnancy and recent childbirth rule one out as a blood donor. The safety of donating blood during and shortly after pregnancy has not been fully established. There may be medical risks to the mother and baby during this time.
* Having high or low cholesterol does not exclude a person from donating blood.
* Potential blood donors may be temporarily prevented from donating if they have a low level of iron (hematocrit) in their blood. This requirement is for the safety of the donor in order to ensure that their blood iron level remains within the normal range for a healthy adult.
* For almost all cancers (such as breast, brain, prostate, and lung), a person may donate blood five years after diagnosis or date of the last surgery, last chemotherapy or last radiation treatment.
* For blood cancers (such as leukemia or lymphoma), a person is not allowed to donate blood.
* For non-melanoma skin cancer or a localised cancer that has not spread elsewhere, a person may give blood if the tumour has been removed and healing is complete.
* If a potential donor has had malaria they cannot donate blood for 12 months. This is because the parasite that causes malaria can lay dormant in a person's system for as long as a year.
* A person cannot donate blood while they are on antibiotics. This is not because of the antibiotic, but due to the presence of the illness or infection requiring the antibiotic - it may be transmitted through the blood.

Mnemosyne has 6 OVA episodes and after watching till episode 3, I'm sure this is a good one to put in my watch list. Its a story with supernatural and mystery events plus full with violence, gore, blood, death and some sadist torture scenes. Not to mention it also has some good ecchi, light sex, and yuri scenes. There is not much in the first episode, but there will more and more in the coming ones. Its main protagonist is Asogi Rin a private investigator that runs a Jack of all trades company with his partner, Mimi. Both of them are immortals, in other words they cannot die even if you slice them apart, they will regenerate themselves back to life. That's where all the gore scenes come from.

Episode 1 - The Cat Doesnt Laugh

Their job in this epsiode is to find a missing cat that leads Rin to a guy named Maeno Kouki that Rin suspects has amnesia. After saving him from some thugs, Maeno told them that he has no emotions or whatever feelings as a human being. Later in the show, after visiting back the Aoyama Pharmaceutical factory where he became a drug tester, he finally remembered what Yamanobe Sayara, one of the scientist there, have done to him - a transformation from a human to a living clone. Sayara is an expert in bacteria and also a sadist. She performs experiments on humans to change them into immortals like Rin but in the end, after many failures - she only manage to produce zombies instead.

What happens when rats rape monkeys? They invade New Zealand, obviously. Zombie monkeys, ninja priests that "kick ass for the lord," 1950s New Zealand. This movie has it all! When the story is about a typical mama's boy trying to score with the hot Latina girl at the supermarket, but ends up trying to hide infectious zombies from the general public and fighting off waves of the undead, comedy and buckets of blood are about to ensue. I would have never guessed that this was made by the same guy who directed the epic Lord of the Rings movies.

If you like blood and gore, this movie rivals with the Evil Dead series. I'd even go as far as saying that it's like a campy gory Shaun of the Dead.

Get the unrated version, NOT the rated R one. They edit out like 30 minutes of footage in the later.

Bottom line: Surprisingly funny and even heartfelt on some level, Peter Jackson knows how to make movies. Even comedy ones.

Skeeters, droppings and decoys

Warning - this posting is a bit raw. . .read at your own risk.

This a photo of Alaska's state bird, up close and personal. It's a mosquito that decided to take a pit stop on my knee this afternoon. If blood makes you nauseous don't look too closely - you can see through her tummy and it's obvious she had a big lunch. I say "she" because it's only the female mosquitoes that eat blood. You might be wondering what the dudes eat - well mosquitoes primary eat nectar from flowers. I'm posting this not to be gross (even though it kind of is), but because I'm proud of my picture. These buggers are hard to photograph.

"It's a piece of art," my mom says about her moose poop lamp. "You have to have the right kind of decor to go with it, which I do. . .so don't laugh," she goes on.

This is the lamp that sits next to the bed in the guest room, which is decorated with an Alaskan theme. My mom made this lamp a few years ago and since then she's made many others. It's actually pretty easy - you go out in the woods and you pick up moose crap. You take it home, dry it out and give it a few good coats of varnish. Then you get a hollow glass lamp and fill 'er up. There is certainly no shortage of the "filling" around Fairbanks, but hallow lamps are hard to come by these days, so moose poop lamp production has slowed way down.

My mom graciously said I could post this on the blog. She added, "if you want to buy one, they are only $200." Seems like a crap load of money, but I suppose that's what a load of crap in a lamp costs these days.

Outside of my childhood playhouse in my parent's backyard sits a deer decoy that my parent's shoot at with bows. It's a bit weird to look in the back and see fake animals and it's a little disturbing to see parts of decoys laying behind the playhouse - it's where they go when they have been shot a few too many times. I'll spare you a photo of the decoy graveyard - it's disturbing even for this posting.

Grandma helps my dear son Liam check out the deer decoy today. Liam started acting like Doctor Doolittle, talking up a storm to the deer as the two family dogs circled around. I wonder what the deer had to say to Liam?

These are just a couple photos that sum up Alaskan life. It's a wonderful, quirky place and it's good to be home.
