'Dobbiamo lottare contro questo stato fascista' disse Umberto Bossi, il colorito Ministro delle Riforme dell'attuale Governo Berlusconi. Ma con chi ce l'aveva il Senatùr, dato che al governo c'è lui?
'Dobbiamo lottare contro la canaglia centralista' disse Umberto Bossi. E continuavo a non capire con chi ce l'avesse. Forse con se stesso, dato che è lui oggi quello che sta stravaccato a Roma Ladrona e non disdegna il lauto stipendio e i privilegi che il centralismo gli passa.
'Dopo il federalismo bisogna passare anche alla riforma della scuola' disse Umberto Bossi, e mi chiesi come mai tra i tanti argomenti di cui la sua raffinatissima cultura poteva occuparsi, tirava fuori proprio la scuola. Poi pensai subito alla scuola fascista della Riforma Gentile e scacciai via il dubbio.
'Non possiamo più lasciare martoriare i nostri figli da gente che non viene dal Nord' disse Umberto Bossi. Nessuno che si chieda dove siano mai gli insegnanti del Nord. Certo è in linea con le stupidaggini di partito dire che vengono calpestati da quelli del Sud, ma la verità è che di insegnanti del Nord ce ne sono molto pochi. Quelli del Nord non vanno a farsi umiliare giorno per giorno da Presidi e alunni per uno stipendio da fame. Quelli del Nord devono vincere, lavorare, produrre, tirare i sassi dal cavalcavia.
'Il problema della scuola è molto sentito perchè tocca tutte le famiglie. La Padania ormai è nel cuore di tutti. Noi ai bambini la insegnamo fin da quando nascono, insegnamo loro che non siamo schiavi e non lo siamo mai stati' disse Umberto Bossi. Questa era una palese captatio benevolentiæ. Dove voleva arrivare il Senatùr?
'Tutto quello che dico è la verità. Un nostro ragazzo è stato bastonato agli esami perchè aveva portato una tesina su Carlo Cattaneo' disse Umberto Bossi. Eccoci, siamo al dunque. Il 'ragazzo' in questione è suo figlio Renzo, bocciato dall'incorruttibile commissione di maturità del Liceo Bentivoglio di Tradate (VA). E non era neanche la prima bocciatura.
Ecco l'uomo Umberto Bossi è venuto allo scoperto, la montagna ha partorito il topolino. Tanti discorsi roboanti, i soliti scandalosi discorsi che un uomo di Governo non dovrebbe fare, per coprire una magagna personale e farla passare come una ingiustizia.
Il Senatùr non sa o non ricorda, oppure tace, che la tesina è solo una parte dell'esame di maturità, che ci sono scritti e orali e che per far sì che quella (coraggiosa) Commissione bocciasse il figlio di un Ministro della Repubblica Italiana, quel 'ragazzo' doveva avere raggiunto un punteggio veramente basso.
Ecco com'è la scuola oggi: quando un 'ragazzo' non studia è solo colpa dei professori. Se lo dice a chiare lettere anche il Ministro Bossi, perché non dovrebbe essere altrimenti?
La parlamentare leghista Paola Goisis, della Commissione Cultura della Camera, dopo l'arringa del Ministro non poteva essere da meno, e qui di seguito voglio fare un breve sunto delle perle da lei inanellate, affinché la Storia le ricordi.
'Gli studenti italiani sanno tutti i sette re di Roma ma non sanno neppure un nome di un doge della Repubblica Serenissima', disse la parlamentare. Lo studente medio, prendete me 10 anni fa, risponderebbe che i re di Roma erano sette e i Dogi di Venezia sono stati 120, che c'è una bella differenza nel ricordare sette personaggi da leggenda e dedicargli mezza lezione e ricordarne una lista interminabile nella quale solo una decina ha fatto qualcosa di davvero notevole.
La Goisis risponderebbe che negli Stati Uniti i ragazzi conoscono i nomi di tutti i Presidenti, lo si vede in tutti i films. Solo i nomi, però, risponderei io. Per quel che serve.
'Dopo trent'anni di scuola di sinistra, di esami di sinistra, di professori di sinistra, di presidi di sinistra i nostri ragazzi sono disorientati. I nostri studenti hanno bisogno di essere guidati da uno come Umberto Bossi.', disse la Goisis. Ma se si vuole purgare la scuola dai frutti del garantismo insolente del passato, come si può contemporaneamente voler continuare a fruirne, come il Senatùr ha chiaramente espresso? E poi, alla fine, gli studenti hanno veramente bisogno di essere guidati dal Senatùr?
'Non è possibile che vengano professori da ogni parte a togliere il lavoro agli insegnanti del Nord. Loro vogliono sentir parlare solo di Pirandello e Sciascia e non di un federalista come Carlo Cattaneo', disse la Goisis. Questa è la perla più brillante di tutte. Fedele al suo capo, la parlamentare ribadiva il terribile torto subito dall'eroico 'ragazzo' da parte dei professori Comunisti del Sud e innalzava il Cattaneo sopra a tutti gli altri. Come a dire che ognuno glorifica ciò che ha, o come a dire che essere promossi solo per conoscere Sciascia e essere promossi per conoscere solo Cattaneo non sia analogamente idiota.
Ma non era finita, non poteva finire così.

S'ode a destra uno squillo di tromba, / a sinistra risponde uno squillo.

'Nel Sud alcune scuole abbassano la qualità della scuola italiana', partiva all'attacco il Ministro della Pubblica Istruzione Mariastella Gelmini, e rincarava 'in Sicilia, Puglia, Calabria e Basilicata organizzeremo corsi intensivi per gli insegnanti', quegli insegnanti che poi avranno classi di 30 o 35 ragazzi e dovranno insegnare con i test, con le caselline del sì e del no, circondati dal disprezzo totale degli alunni e dei loro genitori.
La cosa bella degli intolleranti italiani di inizio XXI Secolo è che non si ricordano, loro del Nord, che è stato proprio uno staterello del Nord a annettersi il Sud più per forza che per amore. Cosa aveva 150 anni fa che li attirava tanto e perché oggi non ce l'ha più?
Tra le tante risposte giustamente indignate che la Ministra ha ricevuto, voglio ricordare quella di Piergiuseppe Manicone che ho letto su Repubblica: 'Bisognerebbe che questa signora venisse costretta ogni anno a cambiare sede, a ricominciare da capo con alunni e colleghi nuovi con la spada di Damocle di una riconferma che è in forse ad ogni inizio di anno scolastico. Bisognerebbe che la nostra signora, si confrontasse ogni giorno con situazioni familiari impensabili, in un contesto sociale disagiato, in periferie ghetto'.
Queste cose a Roma, città ladrona o riverita Sede del Governo a seconda dei casi, non le sanno. E pensano di risolverle operando un taglio di 85 mila docenti sul personale, riducendo l'orario delle lezioni, ampliando le classi a dismisura e inserendo un 'maestro unico' a fare il quadruplo di quello che facevano i loro corrispettivi di 40 anni fa, togliendo 10 mila insegnanti di sostegno per i disabili.
Ma l'opinione pubblica non bada a queste cose, a loro basta che quei fannulloni di insegnanti stiano al loro posto e che ringrazino Dio di avere un lavoro sicuro che gli permette di stare in vacanza per metà dell'anno.
Per fare contenta la gente basta reintrodurre il voto di condotta senza ricordare che una volta si veniva bocciati con un sette e oggi bisogna arrivare a cinque; basta reintrodurre i grembiuli a scuola come 'elemento di uguaglianza', ma che siano griffati Armani; basta annunciare che i libri costeranno di meno ma dimenticare di dire che si dovrà comunque ricomprarli ogni anno anche se saranno sempre uguali.
Come dite? Che la Ministra ha chiesto scusa e quindi devo smetterla con queste polemiche?

Nogle af os sad og talte om modetøj til mænd i kantinen forleden dag, da Kim kom ind iklædt sit Armani habit og T-shirt, - og hyttesko. Jeg spurgte ham om T-shirten sammen med habitten var det sidste nye indenfor herremode.

Kim fortalte han det ikke var en T-shirt han havde på, men en silkeskjorte. Uanset hvad, så lignede det stadig en T-shirt bare uden flip og med korte ærmer. Han sagde at denne stil var blevet vist i Vogue, som udgør en afslappet måde at gå med habit uden et stramt slips.

Som så mange andre mænd, siger Kim også at han hader slips. Men i modsætning til andre mænd, så kan Kim godt lide at klæde sig pænt på til arbejde og alligevel meget afslappet. På kontoret findes en kvindelig kollega, hvis mand ikke har gået med at habit i de sidste 20 år. Dog har nogle mænd  måtte ud og shoppe habitter, som de skal have på ved forskellige begivenheder, for eksempel til bryllupper, hvor mange skal være i habit og slips.

Når det kommer til modetøj til mænd, er Kim altid med på det sidste nye. Han har ofte været klædt i en Fedora og et Justin Timberlake look på kontoret. Dette fik chefen til at hæve et øjenbryn, men det er nu altid spændende hvordan han kommer klædt på arbejde. Han er altid nydelig, hans tøj er rent og nypresset og han er en rigtig rar fyr.

Da jeg fortalte ham at jeg havde fået en ny kæreste som spurgte mig til råds omkring valget af slips, sagde han at han ville vise mig forretningen med tøjstil som passede til min kærestes alder og hans kropsbygning. Ligesom kvinder, skal også mænd klæde sig i henhold til deres alder. Ældre mænd, som min kæreste, ville se fjollet ud i et Justin Timberlake outfit. Kim bad mig medbringe et foto af min nye kæreste så han kun hjælpe mig med at finde frem til det mest moderigtige herretøj. Det blev en helt ny mand – Tak kim :-)

Judging from the sidewalk patrons alone, you can't even order Evian at the Italian restaurant without producing a receipt proving that you laid down over a hundred dollars for your designer aviator sunglasses.

Contrast this with the bicycle cops from Denver's elite riot patrols lunching just yards away at Sam's No.3 on the corner of 15th and Curtis. The sidewalk venue makes for an interesting picture-perfect respite from the previous day's clashes between rioters and police.

Some of the delegates from the Ohio delegation pose for pictures with these law enforcement officials, the smiles and jovial scene is a wondrous contrast to a morning's brush with heated counter-protesters and police.

Some of the guests to the Iowa delegation stepped up the plate and helped diffuse a passionate three-way skirmish between protestors, police and various delegates and Denver youth who were calling for pro-GLBT rights. Iowa Hall of Pride members witnessing the encounter were livid to point out that some of those advocating better treatment of GLBT Americans were not so much protected by police as watched aloofly, cautiously.

The corners of Stout St. and 15th have turned into a big tent circus, missing only the tigers and elephants (although plenty of pins showed elephants and John McCain in, shall we say, very humbling descriptions). Just up the street from the tents are the fake-couture stalls, ironically just across from the local TJ Maxx.

An unofficial caucus of California delegates could easily be achieved across the street from the Grand Hyatt Hotel surrounding well-patronized the fake Gucci, Coach and Armani couture accessories stall. Nearby, the La Boehme "gentlemen's cabaret" is experiencing a boom of business, judging from the clumps of police that stand around the building.

Speaking of booming business, the lobby of our hotel has remarkably been transfigured into a mangled media crime scene, with photographers and slithering sloughs of cables holding the hotel's Starbucks and Rialto Café hostage. The crunch for coffee, as Jane Austen said, "working on a weak mind produces every kind of mischief."

The raised Formica table just steps away from the Rialto café has been mystically turned into a potpourri power scene, with Iowa delegates rapidly chatting with Nevada delegates, reporters, bloggers and the occasional DNC official so proudly wearing their orange "Podium" identification tags.

The only thing missing at this scene are brownies. You can hardly expect to play DNC backroom braggarts on an empty stomach.

If they don’t put you in a good mood, nothing will!

How were your collective weekends? Fun? Exciting? Downright depressing? All Of The Above? I think I managed to break a thumb, that’s my big news.

I somehow managed to swing a 5 day weekend – taking Thursday and Friday as ‘holiday/vacation time’ and with Monday being a bank holiday here, but I want to start today’s blog with a relaying of what came to be a rather heated conversation on Sunday night, and has sufficiently pissed me off enough that I still feel a need to rant a little about it this Tuesday morning.

And it is about this: the correlation between money and happiness.

I will begin by making my opinion very clear: Money has NOTHING to do with happiness. It might make life easier on a very superficial level, but make you more happy? Hells no.

It all sprung from a conversation I was having with my friend, who I will call Jane (for anonymity purposes) on Sunday night. Jane is yet another episode in my continuing quest for reconnection with old friends, and we were having dinner at ‘Balams’- http://www.balans.co.uk/soho.html,  a 24-hour restaurant (well, virtually) in London’s Old Compton Street.

As has become to the usual pattern of play, I explained to Jane that I had undergone a massive period of change, the why, and what the ‘new’ David was all about.

The conversation, as it inevitably does, swayed towards people’s own history – it never fails to amaze me just how much people want to ‘talk’ – and then, as it does, the inevitable clashing of what makes a person happy, and my (again) inevitable repeating of what seems to have become my mantra ‘ whatever makes you happy’.

Now, Jane is a pretty together person, and a pretty happy one. She has what most would consider a pretty nice life, so there would be no reason for her not to be.

However, she made a comment during our evening, which made me wonder actually how happy she really is, and having recently read ‘Affluenza’, I was all too happy to delve as deep as physically and mentally possible.

Jane contended that she was happy because she always left the house looking ‘her best’, and was always best representing herself. She did this, so she said, so that she was constantly ‘high’ or thereabouts. I enquired that if she considered this ‘high’, and did it all the time, was it not that her ‘high’ was actually her ‘norm’.

I enquired, simply, that if we accept her constantly feeling a need to best represent herself as her ‘norm’, at what point did she actually experience a ‘high’ – that point where, on a Saturday night (for instance) someone will look in a mirror and say to themselves ‘I look good’ – a form of self love.

Jane’s reply was that this only happened when she went shopping and bought something fabulous – but with an interesting difference, Jane made clear that this ‘high’ only occurred when she bought something ridiculous, like a Gucci shirt, Armani trousers, or a Prada bag.

Jane comes from a relatively affluent background, but by no means is she a ‘Daddy’s Credit Card’ girl, and she explained to me how the high worked. She would save for a month, maybe two, and THEN allow herself the pleasure of the shop. Immediately, I wondered about the need to ‘belong’ – how the Gucci/Prada/etc shopping experience wasn’t necessarily about the quality of garment, but rather the need to feel the high of belonging to an exclusive club, or designs on a lifestyle, or indeed, as she had mentioned the need to always look her best, the projection to the outside world.

I asked Jane why it was that rather than go and buy something once a month, she didn’t do what the vast majority of people across the country do, which is economise, or feel the fun of shopping on a more regular basis, and do so in Top Shop or one of its many equivalents – for the pair of £200 Armani trousers she told me she had recently bought, and recalled as her last ‘high’, she could buy any number of trousers, admittedly, they might be a slightly worse cut – but why did she feel the need to deprive herself?

She looked at me in disgust. In fairness, she is a self-confessed snob. She explained to me that if she had the money, why shouldn’t she do what she likes? I countered that it was fairly obvious that (a) she didn’t have the money since it took her a month or two to get to the point where she could buy something, and (b) that it was a case of relative values – that a £30 pair of trousers in Top Shop were only a £170 worse off than the Armani ones by the label on the price tag. Sure, maybe the Top Shop ones cost £1 to make, and the Armani £10, but the relative increase was dependant only on the label, and that’s what you were paying for. Jane simply answered that if she shopped in Top Shop or Primark, she would be desperately unhappy, and probably wouldn’t leave the house.

By pulling Primark out of thin air, I immediately thought she was making an interesting point without realising it. Primark is generally considered a budget store, but is ridiculously popular due to it place as the ‘disposable fashion house’ on the high street – that you can buy things in there for next to no money, that look ok, but you know you’ll throw it out after a couple of times wearing it. Jane basically believed that it was either designer labels, or she was scraping the barrel, and I wondered if it was the seemingly mental black hole she invented in-between that signalled just how insecure or otherwise she was in the way she looked.

In the car on the way home, I argued the case of a person having relative value, while Jane continued to argue her point that to her, it was the luxury that equalled satisfaction, while I argued that satisfaction, and happiness, came from within.

Jane posed a question – if I were to become an overnight millionaire, would I want the luxury Mercedes driving in front of me over the Polo I was driving? My answer was simple: No. I said that I understood that the Mercedes was probably a better car, with more features, was more luxurious, and was, in the eyes of others, probably a nicer car, but that I was comfortable in my Polo, and didn’t see the need.

Jane really couldn’t understand it. And became quite animated. She then posed another question.

She had been desperate to see George Michael in concert, and asked me if, in a hypothetical situation where my favourite band was playing, and it was a once in a lifetime opportunity to see them, that I would pay over the odds to see them. I answered, again, that I wouldn’t – a noted a time when this had actually happened.

Last year, Pearl Jam (my favourite band) came to play in London at the Astoria, a significantly smaller and more intimate venue than their usual arena shows. Tickets sold out within minutes, and eBay prices went from £500 to £800 to £1400 in 24 hours. I explained to Jane that, as I believe in relative value, that never, in a million years would I even have thought for one moment of paying £500 for a ticket, let alone what they went for in the end.

Jane couldn’t understand – why, she asked, if I had the money, would I not want to see them?

This argument went on for quite some time, as this mammoth diatribe can probably attest to, and the fundamental difference in values are probably apparent. But I wonder, and perhaps you can help – is relative value relative to what you have? Or should you follow Jane’s mantra of desiring the best, and using money as power? I know (very firmly) my ideals.

Una notizia meno importante (ma sempre di reality si parla): oggi si riunisce il consiglio di imprenditori da cui dovrebbe emergere la famosa "cordata Italiana" per Alitalia. A me, la parola CORDATA fa venire in mente la pasta alla coda vaccinara che si mangia a Roma - ed infatti, dopo aver rinunciato all'offerta di AirFrance (e dopo averci ripensato troppo tardi, dando la colpa ai sindacati), Berlusconi ci prova con la salsa mista all'italiana.

E' aperto il toto-esuberi: quanti ne licenzieranno? Meno o di più di Airfrance? Il figlio di Berlusconi quante precarie dovrà sposare? S'immolerà per la patria, e sarà disposto a sposare anche i precari maschi (anche quelli ben dotati)?

O recém contratado técnico do Chelsea, Felipão (Luis Felipe Scolari), que comanda a equipe inglesa nos gramados. Será vestido pela grife do italiano Giorgio Armani, estilista oficial do time londrino desde o ano passado, Felipão não usará mais o uniforme esportivo para vestir o terno oficial azul marinho com o escudo do clube no paletó, camisa branca em popeline de algodão e gravata em seda azul, como na imagem abaixo, junto com o jogador Ashley Cole.

A Armani ainda revelou o novo uniforme de gala que desenvolveu para o time do Stamford Bridge. O contrato da grife com o Chelsea está confirmado até 2009 e os jogadores utilizarão as nobres vestimentas em viagens e apresentações.

Recentemente, o astro inglês David Beckham estendeu seu contrato com a Armani e Armani Underwear. E a fornecedora esportiva do Chelsea para uniformes de jogo e treino continua sendo a Adidas.

I'm a little surprised that more women have not cried "Side-Out" concerning the amount of clothing the Men's Olympic Beach Volleyball team has been wearing in comparison to the lack of clothing worn by the women.

I'm a huge fan of beach volley and occasionally catch the professional tour games on ESPN and both guys and gals wear almost nothing. In fact, there was a feature about one of the guys who actually wears a shirt on the pro tour and his girl (also a pro player) told him to "get over it" and take off your shirt when you play.

It's BEACH volleyball. Emphasis on beach. You know sand, water, suntan lotion. Big muscle bound dudes kicking sand in my face. We expect you to wear garb that would be found ON A BEACH! In fact, I think the Olympic Fencing teams wear less clothing than the guys playing beach volleyball and they have foil's.

So ladies, just for you, I would like to petition the IOC to have the men wear new outfits for the next Summer games. Shirts off and then for shorts, how about those being displayed below by David Beckham?
