What is the practical use of having Wi-Fi on in Airplane mode? Maybe now the iPhone can be used for browsing the internet on the airplane during flight. But the obvious use is to have the iPhone fucntioning just like an iPod touch, all the Wi-Fi without the phone signal.

If you recently replaced your original iPhone with iPhone 3G, you can now use it as an iPod touch by switching to the Airplane Mode with Wi-Fi on. It safes some battery life not having the iPhone still looking for the GSM signals.

Apparently, according to this Troubleshooting Guide from Apple, you will NOT be charge again for Apps you already purchased under the same account. That's great news! I wish they did this the same for iTunes Music Store.

Tapulous has just release Twinkle, it is their Twitter client equivalent for the iPhone and uses locations services to locate other Twinkle users around you. However the big one in my opinion is, the upcoming launch of their FriendBook app, it is basically a visual speed dial and a contact card swapper. Check out the demo video.

I don't want to bore you with all the details. All I can say is that after 1 week, I finally have my iphone 3G fully functional.

I can't really imagine surfing the web on any other phone that doesn't use such an interface. Apple have really shown and revolutionised the way in which mobile websurfing should be carried out. Furthermore, managing contacts, appointments and emails gives leaders Blackberry quite a run for their money too. The copy/paste function is lacking however once you get used to the swipping function and edit feature, you tend to forget it ever existed.

The app store is a definite plus on the iphone which makes it fun for users to download free or purchase applications over itunes. Within 3 seconds, the money has left your account and on your iphone with Apple presenting you with a receipt the next morning. I must say, this apps thing can get very addictive! My favourite so far are:

- ENIGMO ($5.99) for games. Lacks a help screen in order to understand what the different icons do. Just like me, sure you'll manage to figure it out!

- VoiceRecorder (£0.59) utility - simply needed it (cannot transfer file to PC or Mac though)

- Meebo: Messenger on iphone

- LocalPicks: Iphone tracks location and gives a list of different restaurants in the area!

- Evernote: Very simple but very clever and handy!

- Lastfm: access to all the music out there! (Including your friends playlists)

- Facebook: Great app, letting you keep in touch with friends as well as chat online

(PS: some of the free apps available for download are pretty crappy in my opinion. Some however, although simple might be useful like FLASHLIGHT for example. See for yourselves!)

The headset that comes included in the box is also very handy for toggling between music tracks and answering calls on the go......very sleek I must say!

Bad points:

- Battery drains FAST! (Disable WiFi, 3G, Email Push function and Location services) You would have to recharge after 1 days use. On the positive side, charging lasts about 40 mins for a full charge.

- If you lose Cellular networks, reset network settings (General Settings>Network Settings>Reset)

Other recommendations:

- Bought an (invisible shield) Invisible shield for the phone which is great for protecting against scratches and hardly noticed. Applying the   protective film to the phone would require some specialised (clean) hands !! Apple have a nice cover in my opinion available for purchase from their website:

- a Docking station might also be a good idea.
